Scott County Schools will be closed Friday because of an announced protest by a controversial Midwestern church, the districts superintendent said this afternoon.
We have been notified that we have a group coming in from Kansas to picket our high school in the wake of our losing four students last week, Superintendent Sharon Wilson said.

Don’t it just make your blood boil?
Sad story. What the heck is the Phelps’ bunch trumped up reason for protesting this time?
So, the Westboro CULT is at it again... wish there was a way to embarass them to crawl under a rock and STAY THERE!
it’s best to just ignore these pathetic people
Besides these Westboro people being bat-sh*t nuts, I don’t get the connection between them and these teens who died. Anybody?
They want airtime. Somebody usually steps in and says “We will put you on the air if you don’t do this idiotic protest”
They need cash as well... they try for lawsuits if somebody decks one of them.
Aint they broke after a fairly recent ruling against them?
there was a funeral here in Maryland for two kids who died in a car accident and these bozos said they were going to come and protest. They never showed.
Who knows? The only thing Scott County is known for nationally is home place of Howard Baker. Population wise it’s a small East Tennessee County pretty close knit.
SS would stop them there and they would probably not be able to sue.
I hope they take a wrong turn off I-75 and end up in a place called Briceville or New River :>}
What happened was it rained that night. They were in a SUV and it likely hydro-plained on her. Could have happened to anyone just a bad tradgedy common to these roads. No deliberate malice. No partying etc. SUV's can hydro-plain or worse take the wheel from you at low speeds in puddled water on the road. I have an old 78 K-5 Blaizer that will go anywhere you want it to snow ice etc. But you better drive it slow on wet roads.
Add to this that rain has not been that common here due to a major ongoing drought. She likely had good skills but likely little expierence driving in rain due to this.
The closest TV stations are about an hours drive from there in Knoxville. It's off the beaten path. Emotions from what I've read and saw on TV were running high the last couple of weeks. What Westboro doesn't realize is no ones rich there except Baker. And no jury in that county or any other one in the area would award them damages anyway.
Yeah I am having a hard time working fags into this. It is such a sad situation and this bunch claims to be going against “fags” and very rarely do they ever do that.
They are evil and beyond contempt. I would not piss on them if they were on fire. Why don’t they go to to SF where the real action is? I know why, because that has nothing to do with them. They are simply mad and consumed with evil.
I must say I am shocked that none of these people have been killed. I can’t imagine losing a child and then seeing these creeps there demeaning their memory. They are better men than me because I am too weak, I fear, and could not be restrained.
These @*$($ (I’m a Christian) protested friends of ours sons funeral earlier this year. His crime. He was a boy scout. Sam’s mom (Sam is who died) called me a few days before the funeral & asked me to pray because they got warning this group was coming. My husband called his biker friend who confirmed they had protection. I cried as I came onto the street before the church. There standing at attention were dozens of bikers. God bless those guys!
They can hide behind Civil Laws but they can’t hide from the one true judge. With that said they are going to cross up the wrong persons one of these days. The kind of person with absolutely nothing to loose in this world and will think nothing about it. I can think of a few neighboring communities in this very case where it could happen.
It's all about the Benjamins!!! What connection did they have with the coal miners killed in Sago, WV?....yet they were here. This is what they do. It's all about lawsuits.
You aren't understanding how they work. They do not sue individuals. They apply for all applicable permits and pay the fees. They travel with lawyers and vidiographers. Then, if there is an altercation, they sue whatever entity (Sheriff, state police, municipal police etc) that has jurisdiction, for not protecting their 1st Amendment rights. These entities have insurance. The insurance company then makes an offer to settle rather than get involved in a drawn out court proceeding. The WBC accepts the settlement and moves on.
With the WBC, it is always about the money!
A-ha! Thanks. I wonder what can be done to stop them long-term, as they can be the post-children for the far-left who seek to use them as (negative) example of "Christianity."
