Lehman's Fall and Palin Pick Did McCain In
IBD ^ | 11/6/08 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 11/06/2008 6:26:50 PM PST by Blackhawk73

In my previous life, I witnessed far more difficult postmortems. This one is easy:

The patient was fatally stricken on Sept. 15 — caught in the rubble when the roof fell in (at Lehman Bros., according to the police report) — although he did linger until his final, rather quiet demise on Nov. 4.

I agree with the Lehman Bros reason, but it would be nice if an elitist would actually blame McCain.

Krauthammer went punk about a year ago. His predictions didn’t happen and his elitism is just plain boring. I hope his attitude isn’t a result of his illness.

This guy is a fool. The only reason he didn’t lose 49 states is because of Palin.

Agreed! Krauthammer is way out of touch.

I worked in Illinois and Wisconsin and Palin was the bright
light for us.

This is a study in Bovine Scatology.

Sarah Palin was the only conservative on the ticket.

Palin a liability? Imagine how McCain would have fared if he picked Joe Lieberman as Veep. Nuff said.

Yawn.

If Gov. Palin hadn't jumped onto McCain's sinking ship McCain's campaign would have been bankrupt by the end of August. Gov. Palin was the only reason any money of any amount flowed into McCain's campaign.

Another poster pointed out that had it not been for Gov. Palin, "McCain would have given Walter Mondale a run for his money" in terms of losing states. I completely agree.

Sarah did a great job. Those that blame her are just not with us. McCain was a poor candidate and ran a poor campaign with a president of the same party with no clue. The failure here was with McCain...let him RIP, or better, rest in hell!

Palin was a mistake ("near suicidal," I wrote on the day of her selection) because she completely undercut McCain's principal case against Obama: his inexperience and unreadiness to lead. And her nomination not only intellectually undermined the readiness argument. It also changed the election dynamic by shifting attention, for days on end, to Palin's preparedness, fitness and experience — and away from Obama's

Everyone has an opinion, this is his. Some people here act like a bunch of liberals shouting down a conservative speaker.

Krauthammer doesn’t care much for social conservatives and so Sarah Palin did not sit well with him.

The fact is that in the immediate aftermath of the Palin pick McCain’s numbers surged and he went into the lead for a few days. Then came the market crash and McCain’s surge was brought to a screeching halt. Up to that time I think McCain was running a pretty good campaign and making steady gains. The economic mess killed his momentum and he never did develope a strategy to deal with it. Maybe no Republican could have in the face of a media that made every effort to ensure Bush and the GOP took the brunt of the blame for the crisis.

Maybe Charles Krauthammer will get invited to be one of Bama’s speech writers.... He would fit nicely in their new world order.
