McClintock lead up to about 640 in CD-04
By Ben van der Meer, PolitickerCA.com Senior Reporter
As provisional and vote-by-mail ballots are counted, state Sen. Tom McClintock's (R-Thousand Oaks) lead in the 4th Congressional District widened slightly Thursday morning, up to about 640 votes ahead of Democrat Charlie Brown.
Still unclear was how many ballots remain to be counted; Brown said in a statement Wednesday that he believed as many at 40,000 ballots were still to be processed. Neither campaign has formally conceded or claimed victory as of yet.
An official in the California Secretary of State's communications office said state officials hope to receive a report later today from counties in the 4th and elsewhere on how many ballots they still have to count.
The official noted that provisional ballots take longer to count because voting officials must first verify that the person who cast the ballot is eligible and registered to vote and hasn't already done so in that election.
Once that's done, the ballot is formally processed.

He has the highest name ID of any Republican elected official in California. The problem was that a RINO MODERATE spent about $6 million attacking him in the primary. That kind of damage takes time to overcome.
Tom's electoral problems are now, and have always been, due to attacks from WITHIN the Republican party. He is despised by the pastel elephants because he stands for something and refuses to compromise on the most fundamental conservative principles.
Charlie Brown seems like a pompous jerk to me. I’m observing from afar, but that’s my impression.
McClintock is carpetbagger, no doubt about it, but he’s as principled a conservative as they come, and he would be a welcome addition to the GOP in Washington.
I see that Repubs and especially conservatives are starting to have trouble gittin and stayin elected in your beautiful state, what's up with that???
Nevada County went blue in 2006. (Too many retirees, not enough natives.) McClintock’s problem is the “carpetbagger” label. Charlie Brown is a empty suit — a complete fiction.
Well I’ve heard now, that all the dope smokin welfare hippies livin out on San Juan Ridge got somma that million dollars that Nancy Pelosi gave Charlie Brown’s campaign and voted en mass this time, swamping the vote unlike most other times when they were too stoned to pull the lever!!!
