How do you all define Conservative??? I think I know about all the smaller government/lower taxes stuff, but the thing that keeps killing us in elections are the social issues - I just care that ‘they’ stay out of my personal business. What say you???

Newt is throwing is hat into the ring as chairman of the RNC. That's a good start. The RNC has to be shaken up. Weed out the dead wood.

Conservatism seems to mean many things to many people. To me, Conservatism means limited government and personal responsibility. Ronald Reagan, hailed as the greatest Conservative, didn't get bogged down in the social issues. If we don't get back to the basics, I fear that socialism may be here to stay. This is going to get me slammed, but I think single issue voters are killing us.

Thanks for the answer - I didn’t know that Newt was considering getting back in - he’s the smartest (and most honest) of all!!!

Sounds like we think pretty much the same! Sarah handled the abortion issue just fine - while she doesn’t believe in for herself, she thinks it should be up to the states to decide? If there was a way to gracefully include both views, then the rest of the conservative stuff would easily sell to most personally responsible people. That single issue turned away a large percentage of American voters. How can this be handled? I think it’s the key to coming together with conservative thinkers on all the other subjects. I would really like to get some insight into this issue to see if I can believe that the conservatives have a chance to take back this country.

Any words of wisdom would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Gretchen
