The overwhelming victory by President-elect Barack Obama (D-Ill.) signals a new day for American coal miners and all working families throughout our nation, United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) International President Cecil E. Roberts said today.
President-elect Obama has been consistent in his support for working families and our issues throughout his career, Roberts said. He has made it clear that as President, he will continue that support and will make our needs his priorities.
He will invest in the future of coal in America, Roberts said

Wrong. The thugs who run the union are lying to their members.
Mass hypnosis!
He should invite them all to a cocktail party at the white house so they can meet.
His hearing aid malfunction?
Yes, I'm sure you will see the democratic controlled House and Senate promoting more nuclear power and easing regulations to promote the building of new plants. < /sarcasm>
I know they really are "green", especially if reprocessing of fuel was allowed. But we are not talking about a political party that makes decision based upon logic and reason.
I think we have to admit to ourselves that this issue didn’t work for McCain because he had basically the same position as Obama...he just didn’t express it as stupidly as Hussein.
Next time, we need to nominate a conservative.
We have a winner.
First one to create the Cafe Press site brings home the bucks.
The same thing happens on the right. We cling to the words that ring true, while discarding the words that clash with our beliefs.
Well for the sake of my own household, I pray that Obama does NOT accomplish this feat. My husband is a coal mine mechanic of 11 years. His company does not require unions (thank God) however, if there is no mine, there is no machinery.
I would rather not see a thriving and important industry destroyed only to make Obama and the union thugs look bad.
“The only thing that makes sense is that Oâs supporters have some kind of a filter that allows them to read the Oneâs words they agree wth, while completely filtering out the ones they don;t wish to hear.”
Your term “filter” is apt. The phenomenon at work here is called cognitive dissonance, and it is rampant on the left. The person is not intentionally ignoring the info about Obama intending on bankrupting the coal industry. Rather, his “mind” quite literally filters out that info because it runs counter to his world view.
THIS is the candidate who is going to bankrupt their industry!
No kidding. They are against wind, oil, coal, nuclear. hydro, etc...
My buddy works at the plant. A tech told him a story about doing some work at an old ladies house. She said that she didn’t like nuclear and didn’t want power from nuclear. So he took out his special wrench and turned the screw so it only got power from the non-nuclear power plant!
She was happy as punch!
Hussein is going to “support” the families of working coal miners even as he bankrupts their employers?
I predict they'll show up around the time the ones that say "Don't blame me - I voted Republican" hit the streets.
And then ship the coal to China.
DEMOCRATS?... (Eddie Murphy laugh)....
Of course, I really don’t mean that. I just hate these Union Thugs so much. They care about their political power and stealing money from the workers not promoting their industries.
To put out a statement like that after Obama said he would bankrupt the coal industry, crazy!
exactly-so they wouldn’t be putting money in American company’s pockets they’d be putting the money in the poickets of a company owned by the Chinese army.
“Do you live off the grid producing your own electricity?”
Is there any other customer for coal in the country other than the power industry?
