Nationally, Obama captured 53% of the Catholic vote,...

While I do find it hard to grasp some how geniune "evangelicals" could cast their ballot for Obama, I'm blown away that 53% of Catholics supported this guy and his positions. Is the Catholic church tanking?

People vote with their pocket books...wrongly this time as they did not understand the dynamic set in motion by the democrats that caused this recession. If people feel their money is safe, they will vote their religious and moral beliefs...if not they take care of their families finances first.

Many “Christians” supported Hitler as well. Labels mean nothing. God judges the heart.

You said — “While I do find it hard to grasp some how geniune “evangelicals” could cast their ballot for Obama, I’m blown away that 53% of Catholics supported this guy and his positions. Is the Catholic church tanking?”

It seems that the word “Evangelical” is not as valid as it used to be. I see so-called Evangelicals abandoning the faith of the Bible and the “Emerging Church” coming out of the tossing off of Biblical doctrines taught in the Bible.

I find I can no longer use the word “Evangelical” in a trustworthy manner and depend upon it meaning what it used to mean.

Thus, when the media and the polls use the term “Evangelical” — one must realize that these are not the Evangelicals of one time in the distant past.

In fact, the word “Christian” is also so diluted, as to require further “definition” to even find out if the person is a true Christian as the “name” seems to indicate (at first). Many times one finds out that “Christian” is nothing more than having certain political and social values, absent the saving Grace of Jesus Christ — which is no Christian at all.

Thus, these polls are all wrong in that sense — in measuring “true Christians” and what they think. That’s because these pollsters (and other non-Christians) don’t really know what a true Christian is.

Those who profess to be Catholic or Evangelicals and voted for Obama are Catholics and Evangelicals in word only. Knowing Christ and professing Christ are two different things. Anyone who truly knows Jesus Christ could never vote for the principles that this antichrist (Obama) represents.

This is based on exit polling, and their definition of "Catholic" is someone who says he's a Catholic.

If you remove (a) Hispanics; and (b) people who don't actually practice Catholicism (== don't attend Mass weekly), McCain won the Catholic vote by close to 10 points.

(And it stinks that it was only 10 points, but it's better than losing it.)

I haven't seen numbers yet for weekly-Mass-attending Catholics, Hispanics included.
