Obama is ‘American Gorbachev’ who will destroy US: Zhirinovsky

MOSCOW, Nov 4: Barack Obama is the “American Gorbachev” who will ultimately destroy the United States, militant Russian nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky said on Tuesday.

Credited in the West for leading the former Soviet Union away from Cold War confrontation, Mikhail Gorbachev, now 77, is vilified by many at home for presiding over the collapse of the Soviet Union and ushering in harsh economic reforms.

“Obama, he is the American Gorbachev, he will destroy America, it will not be rebuilt,” Zhirinovsky said at a meeting of the ultra-nationalist party he founded, according to Russian news agency Interfax.

Zhirinovsky, a 62-year old populist, was one of the best-known challengers to Dmitry Medvedev in last March’s Russian presidential poll.

Zhirinovsky is popular among Russians for his brash, often comical style as he attacks foreigners and Communists.

His Liberal Democratic Party came a distant third in parliamentary elections this year which saw the United Russia party of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin score a landslide victory.—AFP

Carter & Obama are definitely in the same class.

Carter was naive and inept, but Obama is, I fear, far more calculating and devious than Carter and therefore capable of inflicting greater long term damage. Carter bungled into things whereas Obama will get us into trouble by design.

Zhirinovsky is right on target. He comes off like a crazed nationalistic nut, but in private he is smooth, cool, very intelligent and admits his ravings are an act. "Who would know who Zhirinovsky is if I didn't do that?" he said. O and the congress will preside over the dismantling of America as we know it and I doubt it can be put together again once they do it. Our only last thread of hope is if the SC makes him prove his citizenship and he cannot. I am not holding my breath on that one. До Свтдання Америка! (Goodbye America!)

"America is a lot tougher than Russia...

Is that so? You may be tougher, but is the majority that elected Obama tougher than the average Russian? I don't think so. Here we whine and throw tantrums if tough times force us to choose between lattes at Starbucks, a new Play Station, and paying our mortgage. Here we hardly have a country anymore; just a bunch of people living in the same place looking for an excuse to scam the government into giving us something we never earned. What do we know about sacrifice anymore?

The prevailing philosophy in America today: Ask not what you can do for your country but what your country can do for you.

Unfortunatly he may be right. If they legalize all the Mexicans and let a bunch more in. Eliminate tax on over 50% of the voters. It is over...my friends...The Dole/McCain fiasco.

I believe this is true. On January 20 next year we will have a sitting president that couldn’t pass an FBI loyalty probe. Our national security, the safety of all Americans will be in his hands. Thinking about this sends chills up my spine.

Then, I think of what our leader, Sen. McCain, said at a town hall meeting on October 10. His audience was enthusiastic, wanting him to go on the attack.
This made Sen. McCain uneasy and he said, “Sen. Obama is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared about as President of the United States.”

In plain words, Se. McCain endorsed Obama. And now we are all in danger.

The Russian is right.

I think it was a combination. Reagan’s greatness and Gorby’s incompetence. Oftentimes there is a historical foil to great individuals that allows them to achieve their objectives.

For instance, Alexander would not have been as mighty a conqueror had Darius been halfway qualified as a commander-in-chief.

Actually if I was making comparisons, Clinton would be Gorby, Bush would be Yeltsin, and Obama would be Putin.

Analogies are never exact of course.

I appreciate the sentiment, but nothing in the experience of this Russian politician or his country gives him expertise about our country.

Allow me to revise & extend my remarks:

I am not saying that Americans are tougher than Russians (or that I am tougher than you). I was remarking on the resiliency of our political & economic system relative to Russia's.

Your observations about "Starbucks" & "Playstation" are indeed reflections of our screwed-up priorities. But I think that's another argument. I'm just sayin' that we'll muddle through the Obama years (may they be short).

Just to be clear, no offense was intended.

Carter was naive and inept...

Disagree. At the time of Carter's presidency I would have agreed. But the more I have seen of Carter's antics since leaving the Oval Office, the more I am convinced that he was indeed a socialist.

There is a very little known story about the fall of the Soviet Union under Gorbachev.

When Chernenko died, only three hours later Gorbachev accepted the job of General Party Secretary. However, he demanded a very unusual condition before taking the job. It had to be agreed by every member of the Politburo, the leaders of the communist party, the military, and the KGB.

A tremendous problem in the Soviet Union was lying. For this reason, nobody in their government knew the real condition of the Soviet Union, or even how their particular part of the government was doing. Everybody lied about everything.

Gorbachev knew a particularly inoffensive KGB bureaucrat. He was a brilliant accountant, and nobody in the KGB, military, or communist party had any grudges against him.

Gorbachev demanded one condition before taking office: that this man, accompanied by armed representatives of each branch, was to make an unannounced inspection tour of the Soviet Union, checking agriculture, industry, the military, the KGB, everything.

He was to present his results only to the complete Politburo, and anyone who lied to him would be in serious trouble. It was a shocking request, but it was agreed to by all members.

Then, however often he would appear before them, the accountant would give them the horrible, awful news. The truth. Every member of the Politburo was horrified. They had no idea things were so terrible, that there nation was falling apart, top to bottom.

The counterpoint to this was Ronald Reagan. From early in his term he surprised everyone by opening the floodgates of US wheat sales to the Soviet Union. Nobody realized that this expensive wheat was draining the resources of the Soviet Union. All the oil they could pump, all the gold they could dredge, all the foreign currency they could get their hands on, went to pay for US wheat.

Finally, when they were impoverished, Reagan announced the SDI, the spending of billions of dollars to make a defensive system that there was no way the Soviet Union could match, effectively neutralizing their nuclear weapons. It broke their spirit.

All the lies about how wealthy and powerful they were just collapsed. Gorbachev had no choice but to try and keep the monster alive, but at the cost of letting go all the nations of their empire. Even that wasn’t enough.

Finally, in the last ditch effort to keep their dictatorship, there was the pathetic effort to overthrow Gorbachev. And this broke him as well.

The man is 47 yrs. old, what has he done, went to college, got a law degree, worked a few yrs. as a community organizer, did a SHORT stint in the state senate in the most politically CORRUPT state, he has not even completed ONE term as a US Senator and he leap frogs to President!!!!! This is crazy!!!

His whole backround, rise to power, campaign, the cult like followers...It’s like a political thriller novel but it’s real life!!!

It may be that, due to his desire to rehabilitate his image and regain some semblance of respect after four disasterous years, Carter may have reached over to the dark side in an effort to try to appear relevant and influential. An international form of political make-over if you will. But you may be right, he could have had strong socialist tendencies all along.

Vladimir Volfovich Zhirinovsky (born 1946) led the extreme nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia to surprising success in the Russian parliamentary elections of December 1993.

“muslims”

Don’t confuse my comment with love for who you blame, but we could’ve/would’ve quite easily had the same results with our own majority of ignorant/stupid/evil. Nope, the American liberal gets the MVP for this season.

I honestly don’t think that we’ll get another opportunity to take back power from the Statists. Ever. They’re already trying like h3ll to rig the system in their favor for the next round of elections. (rigging the census, giving ACORN more power and funding, giving the vote to illegal aliens)

That was it. We had one shot and we blew it. (Heck, we blew it in the primaries.)

This is check and mate, my FRiend.

Go to Youtube and search for Yuri Bezmenov. The above video is just a summary of the original interview. I think there are four parts...don't remember for sure.
