McCain Wins Missouri and Arkansas, But Loses White House To Obama (Newspaper says it's official)

(Jefferson City) -- Missouri's streak of picking presidents appears to be over.

John McCain leads Barack Obama in the state by about six-thousand votes with all precincts reporting.

The last time Missouri voters didn't side with the eventual winner was 1956.

Before that, you have to go back to 1900 for the "Show-Me State" to be on the wrong side of the presidential election.

From the SNL:

ST. LOUIS — Republican John McCain has officially won the state of Missouri, defeating Democrat Barack Obama in the Show-Me state by 5,868 votes.

But because McCain lost the country to Obama, Missouri's 48-year streak of accurately predicting the presidency has come to the end.

The last time Missourians didn't side with the winner was 1956 when voters backed Democrat Adlai Stevenson over then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower (Ike won in a landslide, getting 457 of the 531 Electoral College votes and 57.6% of the popular vote).

Like Obama, Stevenson also was from Illinois.

I think Missouri will trend “redder” than America (that’s a good thing) and no longer become the bell weather state. Perhaps North Carolina will be the new state to watch to see which way the nation will go.

Well, maybe without voter fraud (like students voting at home and at school) McCain would have been a winner. Maybe without the likes of Dumbbell Bob Barr, who took almost 12,000 votes in Missouri alone, McCain could have won Ohio, NC, and IN.

Many thanks to the micro-brains who supported Bob Barr. What patriots!

It is not “official” until December.

I hope it trends Republican and we did do well in both the Senate and House maintaining control and adding seats.

We did elect a Democrat Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State and Treasurer so we have a long way to go to be called a true Red State.

I think Missouri went for McCain because of Sarah Palin. Without her on the ticket there would have been little chance.

KMOX in St. Louis just said MO wasn’t officially McCain’s.

Of course they did. They’re part of the MSM.

The second St. Louis/KC conjure up enough votes for Obama to be ahead, it will be “official” to the media.

In 1956 and 1900 vote stealing was obviously not as well developed.

Well, I feel it is very amusing that the Clinton's didn't deliver Arkansas to Obama. He is so evil that he out Clintoned the Clintons. The fact that Bill and Hill will never forget this makes me hold them in much higher regard. What is that old maxim, “Each man sows the seeds of his own destruction.”

Sorry, but they weren’t on the “wrong side” of the election this time. New York, California, Illinois, Florida and Massachusetts were.

Bob Barr is a loser, no question.

But Bob Barr didn’t cost McCain OH. Even if he cost McCain IN and NC, that’s still only 26 extra electoral votes, and Obama is still president. This isn’t like 2000 or 2004 where there was one individual tipping point state (Florida or Ohio).

Missouri picked the winner, the blue states picked the loser! :)
