SF Gate ^ | 11/4/08 | John Wildermuth, Chronicle Staff Writer

After a heated, divisive campaign, fueled by a record $73 million of spending, California voters Tuesday were backing Prop. 8, which would change the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

Six months after the California Supreme Court cleared the way for gay and lesbian couples to legally wed, the estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who took advantage of the landmark decision now are wondering if they will be the last.

who are these so concerned citizens voting for this and yet voting a fascist in?....

Don’t be insulting, B.O. is a Marxist.

Hey, cherry was just fast-forwarding a bit. Most Marxists become fascists by necessity when the beneficiaries of the Marxist policies get a little restless about the delay in the promised utopia. Then it becomes necessary to remove those complainers before they infect the masses, giving the leaders time to work out those few little pesky details.

It’s very very very very very dark right now...

My rationalization of the GOP/McCain defeat is not that voters rejected conservative American ideals.

Instead I believe that 10% of 'middle' voters were so ticked, I mean REALLY ticked, at the GOP due to the stock market 401K collapse that they just could now allow the chance that McCain would continue in Bush's footsteps.

Never mind that McCain opposed GWB and the GOP in every major issue the past eight years.

Hate to agree with mainstream lib pundits, but McCain really cooked his own goose when he said "the economy is fundamentally sound" just days before banks began collapsing all around us.

I also believe whole heartedly that the rich international money people, i.e. the Saudi's and Soros and powerful anti-conservative global forces, withdrew bank loans and credit on purpose in September and October just to force the world banking system into crisis.

Now it will magically "thaw" ... due to the Obama victory.

Yes it is maddening, and the only defense the US or any future Republican president has against such forces is to ensure that US banks never again become over-leveredged with 40-1 mortgage debt on real estate that is dropping in value.

Yes, the govt. has the duty to enforce Federal Reserve statutes which prevent bankers from conducting business that imperils US businesses and account holders.

Living in Hollywood, I simply couldn’t stand 2 signs: Obama and no TO PROP 8.

1 of 2 ain’t bad. Now all I have to do is deal with these sanctimonious lib a**holes who voted for that Mooslum.

It is utter ignorance, and how frustrating is it that we do not have any real conservative leaders to explain this to voters along with other conservative principles.

Well, it wasn't the conservatives. We all voted for McCain and prop 8. And the white libs all voted for Obama and against prop 8. Maybe all the minorities, who wanted Obama but still don't want gay marriage in the schools.

>Since many voters were either Latino (illegal and legal) and blacks, homosexuality is disgusting to them (and rightfully so)

Yup..plus the Latinos and blacks hate each others guts and witnessed it so many times. It’s mostly white libs who voted No on P8.

At least I can sneer and laugh at that GLAAD center 2 blocks away from me and hear them cry til next week.

I live here (for the time being) and am utterly embarassed. Conservatives or Republicans have no voice at all....papers, news, nothing. You never even here from Arnold, and he’s a partial conservative.

I just think of all the time and money spent on this that could have went to ensuring a tougher campaign and shrug.

Jihadi won’t care about Prop 8. Jihadi just gonna laugh before detonating the nukes.

Stupid California, you could vote yes on prop 8 and landslide for Obama?

It's not so mystifying. The majority of blacks, Hispanics and Muslims supported Prop 8. And most of them voted for Hussein.

This and wimping out and voting for the bailout.  How can ANYONE serve in Congress for so long and NOT understand the economy?
