They've consistently been the "go along to get along party" for so long that I don't see them changing.

I think it was Jonah Goldberg who wrote a good article on why third parties never fly in this country. I think we'd do better reforming the Republican Party rather than building a whole new one from scratch and waiting who knows how long before we get back in power.
