Well, that’s what she said.

In the past when I’ve shown ID, the workers laughed it off, saying that they’re not supposed to check it. This time, the worker acted like I’d lobbed a bomb onto the desk. It’s also the first time that there were poll watchers at the check-in desks.

The NH poll checkers are purely for get-out-the-vote. We didn’t have the right to challenge anyone. We were advised by the GOP to call their hotline if there were any problems, and the legal folks would deal with it.

If you call your name out clearly, the poll checker checks it off the list. If you mumble, you don’t get checked off and the volunteers will start calling you to remind/cajole you to go vote.

If you voted and get a reminder call anyway, don’t be upset. Poll checking is not 100% accurate, and we were trained to leave the name unchecked if we had any doubt.

I haven’t seen poll checkers in previous elections in Nashua either. The GOP was MUCH better organized this year than in 2004. The roster of poll checkers was essentially full for all the voting places in the major towns and cities.

Volunteers are still needed to help with the follow-up calls. If you can spare even an hour or two, go to the GOP office and help with the phones!
