I sort of feel sorry for Liz. She was married to a narcissist. Narcissists have a way of seriously manipulating those close to them who are dependent in some way. I am sure he forced her to "stand by him," and that wasn't her first desire.
Also, deep down inside, no matter what her status was and how intelligent or worldly-wise people might have thought she was, perhaps she was just a scared woman. Scared of being alone to face her health problems, scared that if she separated and took the kids that upon her death they wouldn't have as close a relationship with their Daddy - and that troubled her. Also, no matter what resources she had, obviously her special needs affected her ability to be strong and walk out. I think she just felt trapped, and kept her mouth shut, hoping for the best. Not the best decision, but understandable.
Anyone who understands narcissism, or has lived with a narcissist knows how terribly hard it is to get away from them. They make you feel guilty, even if they are the ones in the wrong. They threaten, and beat down your self-esteem. The mind-tricks are boggleing, and hard to overcome.
It is true her husband was a scum-bag even before the affairs and she benefited from his seedy legal career. But sometimes a person really is "in love," and when the other is revealed to be something not originally thought, you just hope they will change.
I wish her luck.

If the media had not shielded Edwards from exposure in his adulterous affair (which ended this spring), he would not have had a successful showing in a 3-way race with Hillary and Obama. The election may have turned out differently. It will be fun to remember when Obama cuts military spending, pulls out of Iraq, capitulates with Iran and the PLO, increases taxes, spreads wealth and implements unreversable social programs, strengthens organized labor, exempts broadcasting from 1st Ammendment protection, and appoints justices to watch over, strengthen and protect Roe V Wade for the next three decades, that John Edwards' candidacy's main effect was to take votes away from Hillary Clinton and ensure Obama's nomination.

While I wouldn't blame her for kicking his scum-bum to the curb, it could also be that she has lost weight from her battle with cancer and the ring just doesn't fit any longer. That's what happened when I lost weight, too. It got too loose and I had to have it resized.

Hillary would have done all those things, too.

Liz does NOT deserve this, I feel bad for her. Hubby is a scumbag..
She is just as much of a 'scumbag' as he is. They both conspired to hide and then lied about the affair during the Democrat primaries. To this day, they both are still denying that the love baby is his when their closet friends have admitted the obvious.
Liz is a political animal who has savaged Republicans, McCain, Obama, and Hillary.
Elizabeth Edwards also had harsh words for first lady Laura Bush, saying, "I am sure Laura Bush is a really nice woman, but she has not used that megaphone that somebody put right next to her for any of the things she cares about," and calling Bush's inaction "a tremendous disappointment to me."

Been through cancer and chemo twice. The drugs can make you retain and drop water very quickly. Your size changes often so resizing a ring with weight changes isn’t reasonable. Also chemo can leave you with fuzzy thinking, it is an easy time to loose things. Taking off the ring for a couple of months is the easiest answer.

You pretty much nailed it as far as I’m concerned. Elizabeth is entitled to her politics. And she has a demonstrated “nasty streak”. But that’s no reason for me to not feel sympathy for her situation.
John, OTOH, crossed a line with me. He has 4 kids that he just dumped all over.

That’s what I thought. She took it off so it doesn’t fall off.

My respect for her just went up. Too bad Hillary didn’t have the same moral compass.

Liz Edwards is a cold, calculating shyster lawyer who deserves whatever life throws at her. She knew all about this crap and just sucked around, like Hillary did, feeding off the illgotten money and basking in the warmth of her dirtbag hubby's expansive ego boundaries. If his prez bid hadn't been a flat tire she would be at his side still.
To: silverleaf
At least financial worries are not part of her problemsToo bad the same could not be said for her husband's innocent victims.
