I consider the battleground poll to be the best and have followed it for the past 3 elections. They get very close to the actual result. That’s a double-edged sword in this case with McCain down 1.9%. However, this is not bad news entirely. There are no precedents for this election and the enormous voter turnout. McCain could win it.

I’m trying to keep VA red for y’all. I was working at GOP HQ last night and putting out signs at 5am this morning. Turnout reports this morning reflect great disparity. Some are experiencing short lines and other very long lines. The short lines, however, are primarily due to smaller precincts.

Voted this a.m. in Hayes, VA at the Abington firehouse. The line was backed up about 120 deep at the start, but everything went smoothly. Virginia’s election laws are doing their part, at least here, to ensure this election is as clean as possible. You are twice required to provide a form of ID, then must stated your full name and current address clearly and it MUST match against the list. That’s about as thorough as it can be done these days, so fraud will not have the same opportunity to take root here as it might in other states.

Richmond’s WRVA AM-1040 morning host Jimmy Barrett (a conservative) was conducting his own on-air exit poll at a Richmond-area polling station. After about 130 interviews (some on- and some off-air), it was running about 50-50 between McCain and Obama.
