If Obama were to win this thing (which he will not), I think we would see a rush for the Leftists to start paying for everything. This would be an economic and political disaster, as taxes would go through the roof and the economy (as opposed to just the stock market) would go into the toilet.

The US is unusual in that 50% of the people are voting for goodies, but 80% of the country is still in the productive class. It is that 30% of the people who are still productive and paying taxes, but who are also standing around with their hands out looking for gummint money, who must be persuaded.

Whacky Baracky is not going to be able to give away all his gummint goodies without taxing these people as well. Hopefully they will do the math and figure out that for every dollar they are paying in new taxes, they are only getting a nickle back in “free” stuff, and they will come around.

FWIW if it goes that way, while becoming a Canadian citizen is not an option for us (conservatives are fighters, not fleers, and my family has been in America since Colonial times), I'm not above buying things there, at least while the current duty policies apply - and while free passage to and from Canada is still permitted. I'm not talking souvenirs, I'm talking groceries and staples. If Obama wins, despite Canada's many problems we would be more closely ideologically aligned with Canadian leadership. That would help chastise the local state and U.S. economy and send a message. And yes, I use the word "chastise" quite deliberately.

They can vote with bumper stickers, rah-rah emotion; we can vote with our wallets.
