Renowned Israeli biblical scholar and historian David Solomon last week said that conditions in Israel today are ripe for replacing democracy with theocratic monarchy and appointing a king.
Speaking to Israel National Radio, Solomon said that the leadership and religious crises currently facing Israel mirror those during the time of the Prophet Samuel.
Millennia ago, the people of Israel turned to Samuel to help them replace their form of government with a monarchy in order to alleviate the nation's problems.
Just as then, many Israelis today might view a theocratic monarchy as a viable answer to Israel's "disastrous absence of genuine political and spiritual and religious leadership," said Solomon.
I’d favor Israel having a king too if my name was David Solomon. I’d figure I have at least an outside chance.

Israel asked for and received one of these many years ago but they must have forgotten about that king. King Saul. Be careful what you ask for. Veerrrryyy careful.
I remember in the OT it seem like every other king was bad to the bone.
Sometimes they had several good ones, but then they would have whole string of bad ones.
They need to follow God, not a king.
okay i admit it i dont understand all the end of the world stuff...but i do know this...
kings are a really bad idea..people who dont even call them selves kings but are...are a bad idea. i dont think israel has to look very far to see the results of failed theocratic rulers...or failed pseudo kings...
sorry, democracy for me...now and always...everywhere...
4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, "You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead [a] us, such as all the other nations have."
6 But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.
7 And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do."
10 Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle [b] and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day."
19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles."
21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. 22 The LORD answered, "Listen to them and give them a king."
Then Samuel said to the men of Israel, "Everyone go back to his town."
I was just teaching this in Sunday School to the kids. I’ll have to let them know about this idea is still around today.

I thought of this this morning as well, just two days before the election. I didn’t mention it to the kids though. And I hope they didn’t see the moistness in my eyes as I thought of it. I think we as a nation have gone so far astray from God already that if we elect someone like Obama that might push God over the edge.
Either that, or we have already pushed God over the edge and Obama will be His punishment on us. Either way, I keep praying and donating for McCain!
Keep praying and remember, in 2Kings 6 Elisha prayed for his servant who saw the army coming for them and was quaking in his boots, knowing they were toast. He told his servant “there are more of US than there are of THEM.” He asked the Lord to open his servants eyes and when He did, there was an army, with chariots and fire, amassed on the hills ready to fight the battle. I pray there are more of US than there are of THEM and McCain will be our next president.
And just who is going to play Samuel, by finding and anointing His choice?
