Very ominous news. Sour gas in this context is gas containing hydrogen sulfide. It is even more lethal than cyanide gas that we used in the gas chambers. Maintenance crews have been found dead inside their cars after having driven through a cloud of sour gas, unknowingly. The gas entered the cabin through the air-conditioning system.
Exposure to only parts per million can be lethal. The good news is that death is painless — the few that survived all said that they did not know what hit them.
Hydrogen Sulfide is heavier than air, has a wide range of flammability, and is highly toxic to any air breathing organism, including humans. One lungfull at 1000 ppm (one tenth of a percent in air) will cause breathing to cease.
While humans can smell the gas in concentrations as low as 1 ppm, higher concentrations or prolonged exposure to low concentrations paralyzes the sense of smell, so not smelling the gas after you have smelled it is no guarantee it is gone.
Whoever is doing this is risking harming a lot of people and is/are the terrorist(s), imho.
