Tickets will be required to attend Mondays Northeast Tennessee appearance of Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain and are available online as well as through McCain campaign offices in Abingdon and other Southwest Virginia locations.
McCains Road to Victory Rally is scheduled for Tri-Cities Regional Airport at Tri-City Aviation Inc., 253 Airport Circle, Blountville, Tenn. Doors will open at 9:45 a.m., according to a campaign e-mail. McCain is slated to appear in the late morning.
The campaign e-mail, sent Saturday afternoon, asks that supporters of the McCain-Palin ticket wear something RED to remind everyone to keep Virginia and Tennessee RED in Tuesdays election.
To RSVP online and print a ticket, go to http://www.johnmccain.com/ste/eventrsvp.aspx?guid=2dc66e0d-12b1-447b-9c5f-abda3beb9b2d
To obtain a ticket in person, go to one of the following locations: 903 E. Main St., Abingdon, Va.; 302A N. Main St., Blacksburg, Va.; 3904 Franklin Road SW, Suite E, Roanoke, Va.; or 625 Piney Forest Road, Suite 202, Danville, Va..
The fact is, unless they have hidden it, there is no campaign office anywhere in upper east Tennessee where one could pick up a ticket. He's coming to an airport in Tennessee and you have to go to Virginia to do that.
Fine. I printed me off a ticket per the link. Then, I wondered if there might be a bus to ride. So, after a bit of searching, I found a Virginia number and made a call. What I got from that was a seven option recording, none of which was to talk to a live person.
OK.
I'll go anyway. But how many more would go if this amazingly bumbling campaign could get its act together?
S Party ping
Keep in mind that the target here is SW VA, not NE TN.
The one we went to in Hershey last Tuesday didn't require them at the door.
The one we went to in Williamsport on Thursday night had a woman walking down the line passing tix out to folks who didn't have one.
Not sure why the printing costs weren't save for something else,
but to their detriment I wasn't consulted.
Duh.
But, the population is in Tenn, not SW Virginia.
I’ve been to 2 McCain rallies in Northern VA .... no one collects tix, they like to have a sense at the campaign of how many will attend for planning purposes. Just go to the rally. You can get more info on details by calling your county GOP committee.
The wife and I want to go, but to drive all the way from St. Louis to Jeff City and then not be able to get in would really stink.
Wonder why there are no phone numbers on the McCain website.
What do you mean by “population”? Do you mean the rally? The McCain campaign probably doesn’t have any offices in NE TN because they have those votes wrapped up big time. Why waste money there?
One of the complaints about George Allen’s campaign was that he didn’t take Webb’s threat seriously and didn’t visit SW VA to GOTV. So, McCain is making a quick stop in the area to show the voters that he is interested in them and their votes. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard that he was stopping there.
They don’t collect the tickets. Also, you will find that a number of people are bringing extra tickets with them in case someone needs ‘em. I did and so did others I talked to at a rally yesterday.
I mean number of potential people to attend the rally. The rally is for television. An effective rally is one that draws the most people. The more people, the more impressive the effect. There are more people on the Tennessee side of the border than the Virginia side.
That doesn't make sense. Here in New England,NH is the only state that's in play. There are tons and *tons* of ads for RATS on Boston radio and TV stations only because a big percentage of NH voters live in the Boston radio/TV market (most of southern NH is really a suburb of Boston). But the candidates don't bother setting foot in Massachusetts unless it's to raise $$$ at some Maoist RAT fatcat's 11,000 sq ft house.
Good excuse to take tomorrow off anyway.
I don't know the goegraphy of the area but it's not too hard to figure that they are targeting SW Virginia.
He’s stopping at Tri-Cities Regional Airport, which is very close to Bristol. The state line of VA and TN runs through the city of Bristol. He’s stopping at the closest airport to extreme SW VA. It just happens to be in TN (just across the state line). McCain is not campaigning for TN. He wants voters in SW VA to get to the polls because those from SW VA that vote will vote for him. He will hop off the plane, give his stump speech, and get back on the plane, all in under an hour.
If there is a limitied number of people who can attend, they would most likely target SW Virginians over Tennesseans. BTW, I believe this rally(like most) was added over the last day or so. They are flying by the seat of their pants with these rallies.
They probably don’t list phone #’s because all their lines are for GOTV. It would not be beyond the O campaign to tie up their lines all day if they were published. (not that that wouldnt go both ways!)
Obviously, this stop is to nail down the SW part of VA, with the assumption that TN is safe. I doubt there’d be a bus, maybe some shuttles at or near the airport if they expect a particularly big turnout. THO, there could be a few buses to take folks down from Abingdon, Blacksburg, Roanoke area .. I just don’t know.
Congratulaitons on your son’s decision to join USMC. Good luck to him!
When W stopped here in 04, there was a limit on how many got into the hangar. But, no limit on how many could stand out on the tarmac and greet him as he deplaned.
Good. Have a grand time!
