The knives are out for Sarah Palin. Now that the campaign is over several news sources are sniping at the former Veep candidate. For example, Newsweek reports An angry aide characterized Sarah Palin’s shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books. What is the point of denegrating Sarah now?

They may not be registered as Republicans anymore, but more than a third of the state electorate still reliably votes for GOP candidates every two years.
So how come the Republicans can’t elect anybody anymore?
I have no idea what it was like to be a Federalist in 1814, or a Whig in 1856, but it had to be a lot like being a Republican in Massachusetts in 2008. Any day now they’re going to have a going-out-of-business sale. It will start right after the remaining Republicans in the state Senate, all five of them, finish their caucus - in a phone booth.
Before we get to a list of Tuesday’s disasters, let’s mention the party’s one minuscule bright spot. The GOP retained the office of Barnstable County Register of Probate. The retiring, 30-plus-year GOP register was succeeded by his assistant, Anastasia Welsh Perrino.
Welsh Perrino’s brother is a judge, and her father . . . well, you get the picture. But she may very well be the first Massachusetts politician to win an office (admittedly a very obscure one) running against her opponent’s pension.
Her Democrat foe was Rep. Eric Turkington of Falmouth, age 61, with 20 years in, looking to up his state salary from $58,000 or so to $110,000. Six years down the road, it would have meant an extra 40 large in his annual pension. Plus, Turkington had another reason for running, as he said in an interview. He wanted to shorten his commute. Damn, that trip to Boston every day was putting a lot of miles on his car.
“He’s in his 60s,” Perrino said on my show this week. “I’m only in my 40s. I’m not planning on collecting for a long time.”
There you have it - a winning issue for Masssachusetts Republicans. Maybe their only one left.
Otherwise Tuesday was another complete disaster for the Mass. GOP - they lost three more seats being vacated by Republicans in the House. They’re down to 16 - 10 percent of the 160 seats.
In the Holliston-Hopkinton House district - a Turnpike area - Muffy Healey’s ex-chief of staff lost to a moonbat who said high tolls are good public policy. She repeatedly came out in favor of tolling her own would-be constituents, and they’re so dense they elect her.
Unbelievable. But consider the Acton-Boxboro-Shirley-Lunenburg district. They elected a Democratic woman who said in a debate that the Supreme Court passed the amendment giving women the right to vote. She said it twice. She got 56 percent of the vote in a district that was reliably Republican just 20 years ago.
What a fiasco. If I were a Republican instead of unenrolled, here are the only two words I would say to Peter Torkildsen.

And I don't see why more Republican commercials didn't give at least a mini economics lesson. Beatty's was actually good, but he didn't have the money to start early and produce more than one commercial.
What exactly does the state party do (when they actually appear) besides support "moderate" candidates and announce idiot plans to put a pro-abortion plank in the state platform?

MIAMI - Former FBI agent John Connolly was convicted today of second-degree murder for leaking information to Boston mobsters that led to the 1982 shooting death of a gambling executive who also had ties to gangsters.
Jurors deliberated less than three days before delivering the verdict following a two-month trial. The jury acquitted Connolly of conspiracy, but he still faces life in prison when sentenced Dec. 4.
Prosecutors said former World Jai-Alai president John Callahan was killed after Connolly warned gangsters that Callahan might implicate them in other slayings. Boston mob kingpins James “Whitey” Bulger and Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi were FBI informants handled by Connolly.
Connolly, who showed no emotion when the verdict was read, long denied involvement in Callahan’s killing. Connolly was convicted in 2002 of racketeering because of his relationship with Bulger and Flemmi, including a 1995 tip that enabled Bulger to escape arrest and begin a life on the run that continues to this day. Bulger is one of the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted” fugitives.
The story that unfolded over the past two months in a Miami courtroom spanned more than two decades of Boston’s underworld, a tale that has already spawned several books and was the basis for the 2006 Martin Scorcese film “The Departed.” Matt Damon played a crooked Connolly-like law enforcement officer and Jack Nicholson was the Bulger-esque Irish-American mobster.
Connolly retired from the FBI in 1990 and was later indicted on federal racketeering and other charges stemming from his long relationship with Bulger and Flemmi, who paid the agent $235,000 over the years for protection, according to trial testimony.

We fondly remember his fill ins for Howie and he even had his own show for awhile, “The (Pleasure) Pit”. I have the final
edition of this on cass. (2003, I think); Sandy and
former Howie sidekick Paul “Butchie” Brennan stopped by
Howie Carr mentioned tonight that WRKO will carry his induction into the Radio Hall of Fame
on Saturday night from 10 to 11 pm Eastern, live from Chicago. (Carr will do his show
tomorrow from WGN’s studios.) He will get a grand total of 90 seconds for his speech.
I still have a bit of tape from when Jerry Williams went into the RHOF and they cut him
off by having the band play “Yakety Yak”. He was not pleased. I think if you go to
the RHOF site you can hear the acceptance speeches from past awards (in some cases,
when the inductee has passed on, you will hear someone accept it for him/her...
for example, they inducted Jean Shepherd a few years ago. “Shep” died in 1999.)
There’s a list of affiliates carrying it and also a video streamcast can be seen.

Moonbats waiting in wings for ’Liveshot’ John Kerry’s exit

Another election - this time a “special” election for some very “special” people who want to succeed Sen. Liveshot Kerry once he becomes whatever he becomes in the new Obama administration.
Had to love Kerry’s quote yesterday: “I am going to keep faith in what I’ve been fighting for.”
Namely, himself.
Personally, I still can’t believe anyone would give a big job to a silly billy like Liveshot. But who knows - maybe Teddy is begging Obama to clear the decks here.
My prediction is they’re not going to change the law back so that Gov. Deval Patrick gets to appoint somebody, which I assume would be himself. Even by modern Massachusetts one-party standards, that would be a bit raw.
If Liveshot does quit, we’ll have a new gasbag in the Senate by June. Let’s go down the list of possible contenders:
Attorney General Martha Coakley. You know she’s running because she’s impaneled a grand jury to go after House Speaker Sal DiMasi’s pals. By instinct, she’s a Tom Reilly clone - like the sheriff in a Jim Thompson novel, she’d prefer never to indict anybody unless they’re no-account and leave her absolutely no choice. But if Martha’s running for the Senate, she’s got to at least look like she’s trying to put somebody in jail.
Rep. Steve Lynch. Only in Massachusetts would a guy with Lynch’s recent voting record be considered “center-right.” In planning for the 2005 special election that never occurred, Lynch was counting on lots of liberals to split up the moonbat majority. Now, though, Barney Frank is happy trading insults with Bill O’Reilly.
Rep. Fast Eddie Markey. He’s always wanted to be a senator, but now, like Barney, he’s old and happy. Nancy Pelosi made Fast Eddie chairman of the very important Turn Back the Clocks Every Fall Committee.
Rep. Jim McGovern. Like Lynch, he has several strikes against him in the modern Democratic party. He’s white, Irish, Catholic, male, heterosexual. On the other hand, he’s an even bigger moonbat than Barney. Plus, he has Worcester to himself.
Gov. Deval Patrick. Has to decide whether reparations fatigue has set in yet. The Senate, though, seems more Deval’s style. You don’t have to do anything.
Rep. Mike Capuano. He could be everybody’s second choice. Is that enough in a short campaign?
Ex-Rep. Marty “Midas” Meehan. Forgotten, but not gone. Could take a leave of absence from his college to run, the way David Bartley did in 1984. Bartley finished last, but then, he didn’t have $5 million.
Any Republicans. You’re kidding, right?
