When L. Douglas Wilder was campaigning in Virginia in 1989, he went into Election Day convinced that he had done everything he needed to win and become the country's first elected African American governor. The polls showed him with a double-digit lead, and the post-election exit polls had him winning handily.

My dad is convinced that there’s no way Obama wins Iowa. He grew up there, and believes there’s no way they’ll vote for a black man. However, I believe in Iowa, Grange farm Socialism and ethanol subsidies trumps race. When McCain wins, it’ll be a squeaker.

It’s important to note here that as of late, Mayor Wilder has been advocating for keeping Virginia polls open an extra three (3) hours.
His claims for wanting this are based on expected historic-level turnout in VA. But I think there’s something more insidious at work: VA is now expected to go for Obama somewhere between 6-10 points. VA is also an “early-call” state. What happens to voting patterns in all the states out West (Colorado or Arizona for instance) if VA is called for McCain ... showing with certainty that all the MSM polls to be absolutely bogus? AS polling is still happening elsewhere ...
You’d see last minute, massive, enthusiasm by energized McCain voters (imho).
Really? Then why did the Dem's in Iowa vote for Obama?
I grew up in Iowa, Altoona to be specific. I left Iowa in 1977 and never returned. Believe me when I tell you that state is stupid enough to vote for the most un-experienced candidate for President in the history of this country. Hell, they voted for him overwhelmingly in the Primaries, just like Iowa's eastern cousins, the retards in Illinois did.
Iowa is heavily DemoKratik and heavily dependent on farm and ethanol subsidies - just the way the Federal Government likes them to be. No way Iowan's are voting against their own economic best interest. That's just fact.
those were caucuses. dem delegates could be strongarmed into voting for b. hussein. tuesday is in the privacy of the voting booth.
I agree the Iowegian farmer is a somewhat leftist, a product of
the old Grange, plus they’re forever grateful to FDR and the Dems
for buying subsidized corn from them.
I was just repeating what my dad thought-that there was a reason
there were no blacks in iowa, except in big cities,.
Be on the lookout for this demoralizer, meant to get McCain voters to give up, to leak early on Tues. Remind every McCain voter you know to vote regardless.
VA polls are among the first to close, but I doubt VA will be called early unless it's a blowout on either side. In that case, what does calling VA early for Obama do to McCain voters in PA, NH, and out west in states like NV and CO. So keeping the polls open for that purpose can backfire too... it energizes them while it deflates Obama supporters. VA is a must win state for Obama.
No, Dems want to keep the polls open late in VA so they can round up votes in case McCain is winning.
