“Judge Orders Virginia Officials to Keep Late Ballots
John McCain’s campaign claims the ballots should be counted”

FOXNews.com
Tuesday, November 04, 2008

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The McCain campaign praised William’s decision.

“This will help to ensure that local election officials do not destroy or dispose of these ballots before the court has had an opportunity to rule on our complaint,” spokeswoman Gail Gitcho said in a written statement.

“The McCain-Palin campaign strongly believes that no military ballot should be discarded as a result of a failure on the part of several counties and independent cities to mail ballots to service members in a timely manner,” Gitcho continued.

“We believe without exception that the servicemen and women on the front lines protecting our freedoms deserve every opportunity to make sure their vote counts,” she added.”

“’What’s wrong with socialism?’”
Posted: October 27, 2008
1:00 am Eastern

Commentary by Joseph Farah

COMMENTARY SNIPPET: “Sometimes those of us who have been around awhile take too much for granted.

I tend to assume, for instance, that most Americans understand socialism is an evil, immoral system of economics and government.

But, then, occasionally, I’ll get a letter from a young American who has been taught throughout his or her life that only the government can spread wealth fairly or that market economics is inherently corrupt.

I got one of those this week. And I quickly realized why Barack Obama is on the verge of winning the presidency of the United States.

So, I guess it’s time to get back to basics with an answer to the fundamental question: “What’s wrong with socialism?””

Ignorant and free?

“If a nation expects to be ignorant and free...it expects what never was and never will be.” — Thomas Jefferson

The level of ignorance about the nature and magnitude of the jihad threat is today higher than it has been since before 9/11. Indeed, we may consider that now that the nation has opted for the comforts of this ignorance, an era has ended tonight, one that lasted from September 11, 2001 until today. One approach to meeting the jihad threat — a deeply flawed approach, as we outlined many times here — will be set aside for another approach, one that is in some ways identical to the discarded approach and in other ways vastly different from it.

Will it work more effectively to stave off the advancing jihad? Time will tell. But I am not confident that another policy conceived in ignorance of the motives and goals of our enemies can possibly be effective in the long run to keep us free.

Obama is not even in office yet and the heat gets turned up.

Action in Gaza has escalated exponentially, as well as Syria military maneuvers.

Arabs may view the current Israeli gov’t as particularly weak and incapable of responding to their actions, particularly since our gov’t is in flux. The probablity that Bebe may return to power suggests a potential that something serious will happen sooner rather than later.

Iran Challenges Obama by Hiking Tensions on Israel’s Borders

http://www.debka.com/article.php?aid=1365

November 8, 2008

The strategy the Islamic regime has charted for the new US president hinges on fanning tensions on Israel’s northern and southern borders while putting a damper on the various Middle East peace initiatives. Syria was therefore discouraged from returning to its indirect peace track with Israel and Hamas ordered to boycott Egypt’s bid to patch up the quarrel between the Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah.

Tehran’s object is to show Barack Obama who holds the whip hand in the Middle East and force him to seek urgent talks to defuse rising tensions.

At his first news conference as president elect, Obama said Friday, Nov. 7, that Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons was “unacceptable” and its support for terrorist organizations “must cease.” He ducked a reporter’s question about whether he had read the letter of congratulation sent him by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and when he would answer.

But Iran had already laid out its strategy for the incoming president, jumping in the day before the US presidential election.

Foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived in Damascus on Nov. 3 with a briefing for Syrian president Bashar Assad. According to our Middle East sources, Mottaki said Tehran would enter into dialogue with the new US president only from a position of political and military strength and did not propose to await Obama’s convenience until he took office in the White House on Jan. 20.

Iran’s rulers want to force the new US president to seek them out for a back-door channel of communications, in the same way as Ronald Reagan did while Jimmy Carter was still president to solve the 1980 hostage crisis in Tehran. They plan to make him come to them by raising tensions to crisis level.

While avoiding an explicit order to halt the Syrian-Israel talks, Mottaki gave Assad to understand that he must keep Tehran in the picture on their progress and goals. Better they should lead nowhere. This would fit in with Iran’s intention of putting on the table an impressive crisis package including Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinians and so force the new US administration to accept the Islamic republic as the prime power in the region.

To drive this home, they are stirring the pot wherever they can.

US facing second wave of 9/11 attacks

Published by Streem — Nov 10, 2008 9:11am
Updated Nov 10, 2008 2:14pm AEST

Al-Qaeda is reportedly planning a terrorist attack against the United States which will “outdo by far” the attacks of September 11 in 2001.

Arab newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi in London reports a senior Yemen official close to Al-Qaeda as warning of a new wave of terror attacks against the western nation.

The source, who is not named, is quoted as being “very close to Al-Qaeda”

The newspaper is edited by Abdel al-Bari Atwan, who was the last journalist to edit Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in 1996.

The newspaper report, contained on the front page, suggests bin Laden has ordered a large scale attack against the United States which would “outdo by far” the attacks of September 11.

It comes as reports in Britain say there is clear evidence that thousands of extremists are living inside the United Kingdom.

In a message to loyalists, bin Laden is reported to have asked that his followers ignore all efforts to reconcile with Governments and other political parties - in effect keeping extremists isolated.

The newspaper’s source said it was likely a sign of an imminent attack may be sent within the coming weeks.

The September 11 attacks against the United States killed nearly 3,000 people.

Abu Qatada arrested after ‘attempts to flee’ (UK)

Radical Islamic cleric Abu Qatada has been arrested after allegedly attempting to flee the country.

Qatada, described as Osama bin Laden’s “right-hand man in Europe”, is under strict bail conditions following an earlier Court of Appeal decision to refuse his deportation.

After being freed from HMP Long Lartin in Worcestershire in June, he was ordered to spend at least 22 hours a day confined to his West London home, wearing an electronic tag....
