My friends, it's John McCain, live from New York, just three days before the election. Aides to the Republican presidential candidate said Friday that McCain will make a detour from battleground states to appear on "Saturday Night Live," the late-night show that has been a must-watch for many during the political season.

Hosting the show this Saturday is actor Ben Affleck, a supporter of Democratic candidate Barack Obama. The musical guest is singer David Cook.

Yep... OTOH, McCain has given all his senate raises to charity, gives all his book proceeds to charity, too...

Liberals say one thing then do another, just look at the charity money that Obama and Biden give, and then look at how much they make, and then look at what they say.

Whoa - Affleck killed with that Overbite skit. He turned red, popped a forehead vein (and broke character). The self-conscious, pretentious thundering idiocy of KO was on full display there. It was awesome.

The reason time I watch Maddow or Olberman (30 seconds at the most), is the same reason that people tend to slow down and gawk at really bad traffic accidents. I don’t care much for Ben Afleck but I thought his Olberman skit was hilarious and on the money.

I tuned into KO exactly once and couldn’t stomach it.

But oh my! Affleck absolutely nailed him. The blustering, the self-righteous indignation, all of it. ROFL.

I agree. Who know Affleck could act.

Speaking of acting, Huckabee has Richard Dyfuss on and I honestly cannot tell you what this man is saying... he is rambling as if he is on drugs or something, making no sense at all.

I think SNL this year has been as even-handed satirizing the presidential race as any mainstream comedy outlet I can think of. The person who consistently gets the short end of the stick over there is Joe Biden.

They never goofed on Obama anywhere near as harshly as they did Palin. Palin was by far mocked more than anyone -- including Biden.

I always took their caricature of Palin more as a satire of the way Elitists (especially East Coast Elitists) view Sarah Palin rather than an actual mockery of Palin herself. However, it might be that, since the show is largely written by East Coast Elitists, they're unaware of the disconnect.

I live among these people. Trust me: they're really mocking her, not themselves. They think she's a dumb religious nut. That impression might have mitigated somewhat after they met her and saw just how nice and normal she is. But they did mean to mock her in those sketches.

Tina Fey has been smart enough (following her initial derogatory remarks about Palin) to attempt to be somewhat even handed in her comments about her. She said that Palin is just as smart as she is, but she doesn't think she is smart enough to be president herself; therefore, neither is Palin.

I agree with you about some of the crazy turns NRO writers have taken this election cycle, but I'm in agreement with Jim on this one. Maybe I'm sensitive to this because before I watched this sketch I was watching Palin give her fourth rally today. Her voice was hoarse, she looks like she's lost a lot of weight, she looks tired, but she was making the plea of her life to get her team elected. In her interview with Charlie Gibson, Palin said that most of all she did not want to "let woman down" -- she feels the weight of history. She is an historic candidate, and you could see the burden of that in her demeanor tonight. I'm a screenwriter, so perhaps I see things a bit dramatically, but the whole thing was like a climactic scene in a movie -- with that wonderful theme music from the film "Rudy" rising in the background. To see such dedication and determination in her at this rally, and then to switch over and watch this caricature of her on SNL with John McCain standing by was just too much. It felt insulting.

I actually enjoyed it when he broke character during the KO skit. I’ve heard some of his political opinions, and I don’t agree with him at all.

But people change. It’s happened before. Maybe someday...

I saw a bit of Dreyfuss on Huckabee, and couldn’t figure him out, either. He’s way too earnest and self=important. I didn’t have the patience to watch the whole thing. He’s made a career lately of playing evil Republicans. Yawn.

Two weeks ago, Sarah Palin was on SNL with the same caricature. If it was a big problem, she would have said it was a big problem. By all accounts, she had a blast on the show and was a very gracious guest.

I live among these people. Trust me: they're really mocking her, not themselves.

Probably. But they don't see how they come across to normal humans. The entire Democrat party has morphed into a combination of the Wellstone Memorial and the OJ Simpson Jury.

SNL is at the very least self-aware of this. As evidence, I would point to the New York Times skit (though most FReepers never got past one of the racier lines), the MSNBC Debate skit during the primaries, and the Olbermann sketch on tonight's show.

He does look a bit like Cheney these days... but I could not figure what in the world he was getting at tonight.

I noticed at the end that McCain was very warm toward Affleck and lingered speaking to him a few minutes extra.

I think the Right are having one giant, massive case of psychosis.

Some kind of delusion that the mockery of SNL is somehow good for us.

Even when all evidence points to the contrary.

One day they will wake up....one day.

Holy Moley, the schedules of Mac and Sarah the next two days seem superhuman!! How can anyone get from each rally location to the next in those short times? And all those stops all over the country! Wow.

My husband thought it interesting the cameras knew to zoom in on those two men in separate places in the audience.

I didn’t see the Huckabee show. Maybe it will be replayed tonight. Perhaps there were cameras trained on those two areas of the audience all night long, and the producer chose which shot went on air. Perhaps the whole show is not live, and there is time for editing.
