The Tri-Cities area (Johnson City-Kingsport-Bristol) is the main media market for the coal country of Southwest Virginia. That region is an important swing region in Virginia. It’s got a lot of Democrats, but they’re pro-life, pro-gun, pro-family. All those little coal towns regard the Tri-Cities as their metro hub. Those cities are centered in Tennessee (though Bristol straddles the state line), but it’s the place to stage a media event if you want to reach the Southwest Virginia coal country.
I’d hoped it was just a matter of convenient geography. Thanks for the info.
