Senator Barack Obama on Sunday invoked his own absent father to deliver a sharp message to black men, saying "we need fathers to realize that responsibility does not end at conception."
(snip)
"Too many fathers are MIA, too many fathers are AWOL, missing from too many lives and too many homes," Obama said to a chorus of approving murmurs from the audience. "They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it."
..Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, laid out his case in stark terms that would be difficult for a white candidate to make, telling the mostly black audience not to "just sit in the house watching 'SportsCenter,' " and to stop praising themselves for mediocre accomplishments.
Obama did not take his Father's Day message to Trinity United Church of Christ, where he resigned as a member in May after a series of disputes over controversial remarks by the church's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Instead, he chose the 20,000-member Apostolic Church of God, a vast brick structure on the South Side near Lake Michigan. ...
The address was not Obama's first foray into the issue. On the campaign trail, Obama has frequently returned to the topic of parenting and personal responsibility, particularly for low-income black families. Speaking in Texas in February, Obama told the mostly black audience to take responsibility for the education and nutrition of their children, and lectured them for feeding their children "cold Popeyes" for breakfast.
(snip)
The Rev. Al Sharpton called the remarks on absent black fathers "courageous and important," but cautioned that Obama's words would not be embraced by all segments of the black community.

Well, he should know.
[and missing mommies, too]
Someone’s bitter?
Bill Cosby... is that you?
Does “that one” have a single original thought?
Bwaahahaahahahhahahaaaaaaaa .... yeah, Cosby needs to get with duh messiah on the reality and feasibility of this “advice”.
Um, which father would that be, now, Mr. Obama? The alleged Pink Frank or the alleged Obama (green card), Sr?
Has he found his aunt in Boston yet? How about his brother in Kenya.....
How bout Hussein show more ‘responsibility’ to his own family members living in huts and slums all over the globe? (eye roll)
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I agree - but overall I do wish black fathers would step to the plate more for their own - family is key regardless of party or culture.
Hey Obama, these men want free money (from the “rich”, of course), free drugs, unlimited abortions to get out of their responsibilities, free health care, and free houses. And you are just the slime-ball to give it to them. Don’t mess up a good thing now.
“family is key regardless of party or culture.”
Of course it is! It is just too bad that most of Obama’s family seem to be residing under his bus these days...(eye roll)
What about black nephews? Especially the ones who write books about how they feel responsible for their aunts?
No.......it ends on the table left to die...after a botched abortion. What a hypocrite....
This is just an attempt for O to show fence sitters that he’s not your typical black guy. Sort of a Sista Soldja event.
His black father was totally absent from his life. And he apparently learned well, after all, he did nothing to help his Aunt Zeituni...or did he?
What an odd paradox. There are Democrats who advocate abortion rather than raise kids in a dysfunctional environment, and yet their Leader...
Like yourself, Barack?
No doubt your daughters would be impressed with your secrecy/ suppression of background documents, divisive personality, arrogance, and spread the wealth mindset. Oh yeah, and your personal generosity as well.
It's for being a MARXIST and SOCIALIST, STUPID!!!
