did you have to take their stupid survey to join?
No. I didn’t even notice a survey, in fact. I did have to give my name (fake), my email address (they’ll email you as part of your confirmation, so give them your real email address), your general location (city, state, zip), gender (they give you lots of options—I chose “bird”, lol), and birthdate (you can shave off as many years as you like). I think that was about it.
I’m not sure why I didn’t get the survey. All I did was click “digg” on the left side of one of the article titles on the homepage. A window popped up and instructed me to either log in or join. I clicked join and it went straight to the registration. That’s it.
