The Department of Health has released a statement about Senator Barack Obama's official birth certificate.
There have been talk among some chat rooms that Senator Obama was not born in Hawaii, or even America for that matter, and therefore is ineligible to run for the office of President.
There have been various requests for copies of his Hawaii birth certificate to the Department of Health, all which have to be turned down.
"State law (Hawai'i Revised Statutes §338-18) prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record," said DOH Director Chiyome Fukino.
"Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai'i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai'i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama's original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures."
Fukino adds that no state leaders, including Governor Lingle, has asked the certificate be handled in any way different from any one else's vital records in state possession.
I'm skeptical of the entire birth certificate saga, but I found this particular article a bit strange.
Director Fukino says that she has personally seen Obama's original birth certificate. But, she didn't come out and confirm that he was actually born in Hawaii. Is that implied by the fact that there actually is a birth certificate? Or is there a legitimate set of circumstances where someone born to a resident of Hawaii would have a birth certificate on file?

It opens with "State officials say there's no doubt Barack Obama was born in Hawaii." But, they didn't actually say that -- at least in any article I've found.
Fukino is a defendant in a lawsuit on the 18th concerning this case from what I’ve read. Sounds like a typical defendant-type statement. Still skeptical.
There would be no reason for DOH in Hawaii to have a copy of Obama’s birth certificate if he was not born there. Sorry I have no intention of voting for the guy but give this issue a rest. The way the State handles this is how many States do. You are not an interested party you do not have access to the records. Can you imagine the increased identity theft if anyone could see anybody’s birth certificate?
They have it? Super duper. Let’s see it.
Another question is does it match the information on the COLB that the Obama camp released or is his name different?
The fact remains that Obama is playing cutesy about the BC. There is no reason for us not to be able to see the BC. He needs to authorize it.
Wouldn't that constitute a breach in privacy without having the individuals permission to view the document?
What higher ‘tangible interest’ is there than the President of the United States. Bring forth the document. We don’t believe you.
I wonder if Joe The Plumber’s BC would get the same treatment?
There never was a question whether the Satte of Hawaii has the original birth certificate.
WHAT DOES IT SAY?
Lei wearing dummies.
Well, excuse me but would running for president be a tangible interest. That said, I think it is a non issue, but why hide it?
“State law (Hawai’i Revised Statutes §338-18) prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record,” said DOH Director Chiyome Fukino.

“OF the people, BY the people, FOR the people”
What part of that do you not understand Fukino? I am a citizen of this country, and a coup d’état is going on right under my nose, and paper-pushing tyrants like you think I am a peasant/vassal/slave/idiot who has no “tangible interest” in an unlawful seizure of power by this Marxist/Muslim.
That's what I was asking. If that's true, then you are correct.
Sorry I have no intention of voting for the guy but give this issue a rest.
I've never thought it was likely, myself. I just found this article (and the AP article) strange. Maybe it's my Clinton radar going off -- I notice when people choose their words carefully and appear to give non-answers.
The way the State handles this is how many States do. You are not an interested party you do not have access to the records. Can you imagine the increased identity theft if anyone could see anybodys birth certificate?
Believe me, I understand the problem -- after my birth certificate was stolen, I've had to monitor my credit files.
Huh? It was widely reported that gov. Lingle "sealed" Obama's birth certificate! Was that story another Axelrod astroturf campaign?
I needed to provide my birth certificate to get a driver's license. If I didn't provide it, then I couldn't drive. Same should hold true for Obama seeking the Presidency. If he doesn't provide it, he shouldn't be allowed to be President.
I never doubted that Obama was actually born in Hawaii.
I DO BELIEVE his religion (didn’t they have to list that at the time) was listed as Muslim.
Or something else very incriminating.
Why else would he avoid this, unless he WANTED the conservative opposition to “bark up the wrong tree” and thus spin its wheels at nothing.
Have any presidential candidates ever released their birth certificates to the general public? Seriously, do you have a link to Rudy's, Mitts, Clintons, Thompsons, Huckabees or any of the former presidents?
Have the official say Obama was born in HI under oath.
That said, I don’t care about this issue right now anyway. I always thought it was a distraction from Obama’s communist, anti-Semite allies and his socialist positions.
