Schmidt just wants to preference narratives of hope over “disinformation.” I bet if I ran Google I could make a big impact making sure people mostly just got the correct narratives I think. That’s very savvy for quasi-authoritarian thought control. Very very savvy. Google is our friend and really cares for us.What happyfeet deftly riffs is the presumption at the foundation of Schmidt's premise - one that is particularly chilling to those who see the internet as one of the last venues for a free market of voices and opinion. In effect, what Schmidt is bothered by is people's ability to choose - or rather, that these people, given near limitless choices, misuse that choice and wind up embracing the wrong kinds of narratives (which Schmidt, as a good little wannabe-postmodernist unaware of his own appeals to metaphysics, describes as "disinformation" - the idea being that the ACTUAL truth is out there, in pristine form, and that people like he will guide the peasants toward it. As a necessary function "real hope.").
What Schmidt is proposing, to those who read between the lines, is a potential collusion between the major search engines and the "quality" purveyors of information - those who present the "correct" lessons in the "proper" narrative form in order to save us from the "cesspool of disinformation" that is likely to corrupt our opinions and direct us away from the golden road of progressive epistemology, which requires the embrace of approved narratives and the rejection of those deemed uncharitable to "real leadership" and "real messages of hope."
In other words, search engines will direct readers to the very kind of journalists who they've rejected in print, and, perforce, reinforce the hidden narrative biases that people have gone to the internet to escape.
In states like my state of Ohio, OC is definitely affecting polling numbers because the weighting is skewed because of the people who voted for Hillary. Those who are not normally registered as Democrats got registered as Democrats during the primaries because Ohio takes your registration from how you voted on the latest election cycle.

Gadzooks, I'll miss Rush on both Monday and Tuesday--clearly my customers have no idea what's important. But I'm determinedly keeping my schedule clear Wednesday morning so I can either celebrate or mourn with Rush and my fellow FReepers.

Did anyone hear what happened at (I believe) Western Kentucky U?
I have listened to Rush more in the last few weeks than I have in a long time and some of the things I have heard from him are startling (in an good way). I have always liked Rush but he is a deeper thinker than I imagined, and now seems superior to most other hosts (may be the reason for his ratings). I hope for a time, in the near future, that we hear such sentiment from our representatives. When I learned to type it was “now is the time for all good men to come to the aide of their country”, gentlemen/ladies that is now an urgent clarion call. I am waiting for 12:07 hrs. and a cup of tea.
