The Left has learned to not implement their controls head-on. There is always someone else in the loop who is easier to persuade to cooperate to the same ends (or be removed from the loop, ultimately breaking the loop). As would-be owners are discovering in DC: sure you can buy one, but there's only one legal dealer and he charges a $200 premium. As NFA owners have long known: you can buy a machinegun legally, IF you can find one, and IF you pay the $200 tax, and IF you pay the 20x markup. They'll allow SOME path to do whatever is controlled, but so obnoxious as to be practically impossible but for the most devoted.

Yes these will be implemented along with things like subjecting links and magazines to "ammunition feeding device" taxes of $50 each, and annual "arsenal permits" of $2500 etc.

True, but the road to "an America where only the police and military are armed" is always the end goal. They may have learned to take smaller steps when they have to, but they NEVER lose sight of their goal. They are not moved by logic or reason. They have only contempt for the bill of rights, and plenty of sicherheitsdienst jackboots to mindlessly carry out their orders (New Orleans being an example of that). So after most have been disarmed administratively or economically, then the holdouts will face the jackboots who will not have disarmed at all, but have been increasingly militarized (see post 58).
