Aerosmiths Joe Perry walks this way with John McCain By Dave Wedge
Thursday, October 30, 2008
Aerosmith has generally left the politics to bands like U2 and the Dixie Chicks, but axeman Joe Perry says national security and economic woes have prompted him to split from the rest of the entertainment world and throw his support behind John McCain.
We pretty much stay out of it, but seeing so many people come out for Obama, I just felt like What the hell, I might as well raise my hand for this side, Perry said from his Duxbury home.
The Bay State rockers have done a few fund-raisers for the Kennedy family over the years, but Perrys endorsement of McCain marks a first for the platinum-selling guitarist/songwriter. A lifelong Republican, he said he was inspired to come forward because of ringing McCain endorsements from Rudy Giuliani and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Ive been a hardcore Republican my whole life, he told the Herald. My mother and father drilled into me from the very start that if you work hard and be positive, youll get what youre working for. I guess Im living proof of that.
Of criticism about McCains age, Perry said: My mothers in her 80s and she does aerobics. My managers 70 and hes right there. That doesnt bother me.
And despite lopsided polls, he urged his fans to get out and vote.
Im an optimist. It aint over till its over, he said. I think that hes got a chance.
Of the rockers endorsement, McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said: Joe Perry is an icon of rock-and-roll and a great American. John McCain absolutely appreciates his support.
Damn. Been a while since I bought an Aerosmith cd. Guess I need to put it on a short list.
I love Joe’s quote about working hard, etc.
Cheers, Joe!
(Evidently the man is as smart as he is handsome. Swoon!)
Keep this train rollin’.

Is there time to switch to Aerosmith instead of Springsteen at the Super Bowl?
I’m going to go out and BUY a few Aerosmith cd’s JUST to give Joe support about this.
If you don’t already have them, get “Get Your Wings” (1974), “Toys in the Attic” (1975), and “Rocks” (1976). ....by far their best period.
Whew! After all of these years, Joe is still smokin’ HOT!
Emails to him through the band site or even myspace would probably also be good.
Full disclosure, this endorsement and any others do not play a factor in the casting of my ballot, I have already voted for McCain this week.

And the original: Train Kept a Rollin'
Anyone who makes as much money as Joe Perry obviously does knows they’ll be handing over a lot more dough if Obama is president. This is a no brainer endorsement.
Well, there are five members of Aerosmith aren't there? Wonder who the other four are voting for.
Uncannily I was just watching a bio about Stephen Tyler (although Joe was in it!) on E!, how crazy is that!
What took so long?
He could have really helped before now.
Joe looks very healthy. He takes care of himself....druggy days long behind him
