Machine Problems Frustrate Early Voters [touchscreens switching McCain votes to Obama]
Decatur County Online ^ | 10/22/08 | Jennifer Clendenion

Several Decatur County voters are concerned about problems with the voting machines at the Election Commission Office. Voters claim they tried to vote for McCain for President but the machine checked Obama instead.

At least three voters encountered the problem when casting their early ballot on Saturday morning. Franklin Boroughs says he intended to vote for Republican but rather the computer had checked the Democratic candidate instead.

Wanda and Barney Blasingim similarly said they tried to vote for McCain but the machine switched the vote.

"I noticed the problem immediately," Wanda said Monday. She says she touched the "button" for McCain a second time and the problem was corrected. Her husband said he asked for assistance from election workers and was told the error sometimes occurs when a person's finger touches close to the line of the box the candidate's name is in.

Yep, that is why the Dems wanted this kind of voting tech.

The old push card ballots were just fine.

The election is currently being stolen.

Don’t worry. All the elites have told us Obama is the better choice anyway. No point in common people making up their own minds.

The way I look at it is that it would be trivial to miscalibrate the machine to make it tend to click up or down. So, if they’re in a Republican-leaning district, they deliberately calibrate them poorly.

Had the same problem in WV last week. They say they’ve fixed it.

Optical scanning ballots are the way to go. You still have a paper ballot marked with a pen, but they can be counted quickly. The machine spits out double votes on the spot so the voter can get a new ballot if he makes a mistake.

If needed, they can be counted by hand like any paper ballot.

...and no hanging chads.

I'm just not getting all this "early voting." I thought election day was Nov 4? I understand the need for absentee balloting for those who are serving our armed forces overseas or otherwise away from their home on election day but that used to be done by mail and was the exception to the rule. Everybody else had to drag their butts to the polling places on the actual Election Day.

Early voting seems to me to set up a perfect opportunity for vote tampering. What happens to the ballots cast during the 7-10 days leading up to Election Day? How can we be sure they are not being tampered with?

One of the biggest con jobs of the century was selling the idea that mechanical vote machines were unreliable, and that software voting was the solution.

What about ballots where you mark a big X next to your choice(s), and then drop the ballot into a box in front of several voting judges? Is this too complicated?

Someone is really liking the obvious manipulations of our voting process.

As long as I’ve been voting in NY State (since 1968), we’ve always had the mechanical lever machine. I can’t recall there ever being any major problems with them.

AS we sit here and read one anothers thoughts and listen to the new, (FOX here) we are seeing this election stolen right out from under us and nothing is being done to stop it. There are those who are trying like in IN where they want an investigation into rackettering..but look at Ohio and what the Supremes did..just let it go? Oh well..too hard to do so lets do nothing..
If the Obama team wins this thing, what is to ensure that in four year time there will be another national election? With his cronies he will have had time to push through an FDR kind of new constitution..( did you hear that on Rush today..nearly word for word Obama..FDR was a socialist of his era who just was after bigger govt.and here we are today). Get the Barf bucket..

The software development of many or most American voting machines was recently subcontracted to a Venezuelan company.

That news got out about two months ago.

They should not be using touch screens for something like this. It's fine for checking out groceries, but not for voting. They need real buttons to press, so it's obvious what you are selecting.

They could even have a prompt "Are you sure you want to vote for McCain?" (press button again) "Are you *really* sure you want to vote for McCain?" Press button again harder. "You've just voted for our Dear Leader, Barack Obama. Have a nice day." :)
