DES MOINES, Iowa - Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama returns to Iowa on Friday where he'll headline a midday rally in Des Moines.
The rally at Western Gateway Park at 11:30 a.m. is open to the public.
Obama canceled a visit to Iowa last week to visit his ailing grandmother in Hawaii.
Friday's trip comes after several events held last weekend in the state by Republican nominee John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin.

Obama knows Iowa is in trouble.
Well well well... all the public polls show 0 leading in IA by 500 points or so... Yet 0 is making a stop in IA just days before the election?
Gee and listening to the MSM you’d think Obama wouldn’t be spending time in a state they’ve already put in his column.
Zero is in trouble in Iowa. NRO says it’s tied.
It will be close again in Iowa. Forget the RCP polling.
I think it’s going to be close there too! Please Iowa..out country first!
IA can have O on Friday; we in VA get McCain on Saturday !
Right here in Fairfax, no less!
PUT country first.
I thought for sure all the talking heads just told me Iowa was in the bag for Obambi.
I guess I must have misunderstood.
How is Granny by the way? Thought she was knocking on St. Peter's door?
Haven't heard anything about her since.
Of course from the time we learned that Granny might not make it, it ONLY took The Messiah FOUR days to get there.
Coincidence on how the Gov of Hawaii suddenly announced the "sealing" of his records soon after Barry's visit, nes't ce pas?
I would also point out that McCain’s stop in Virginia Saturday is listed as his Final Road to Victory Stop in VA. I know they are getting down to brass tacks, but if that was the most likely red state to flip, I would think he would stay there until Tuesday.
But the McCain camp looked at the same stats I did, showing that the new voters in VA were actually below the trend of the last two presidential cycles, and that there was really no way that Obama would flip the state as long as the pubbies showed up.
Wow. Maybe he’s got a date with Khalidi and Ayers about ethanol.
I really believe Zero is fading, just like in the Rat primaries. He may be an elequent teleprompter speaker, but he doesn't have the skill to connect with everyday people that Reagan and (giving the devil his due) Slick had.
Obama keeps showing that dangerous flat line of just below 50.
Every pollster knows what that means in the closing days— sale not made.
He cannot effectively cross 50 and has had ample opportunity to pick up that endorsement.
Combined with the bias of the polls, he is in serious trouble come Tuesday.
This is weird.
I get the impression that That One’s campaign is a lot like the swimmer who lost to Michael Phelps by .01 seconds at they Olympics. They have urger all supporters to vote early— and many, many are. But they know enough to know that they are running out of voters/momentum, much like smack talker who lost to Phelps when tried to glide into the wall when Phelps was going full throttle.
I hope McCain finds time to make at least one more swing through IA, WI, and MN before election day. Winning any one of those states will greatly help him get to 270 EVs, especially WI or MN.
The infomercial has me concerned, IMO it is a bad idea, but for the masses, who knows?
Iowans have a huge evangelical base. The farmers are balancing ethanol subsidies and their conservative roots. Western Iowa is Big GOP. The eastern part is Dem. The middle (Des Moines suburbs) are in play. The rural part of Iowa will go GOP. Waterloo, DSM, CR
Mac will take Iowa in another close one....
