At this point, I think the Evangelicals support Israel more than most Jewish Americans. Jewish liberals want to give Obama the benefit of the doubt. It’s easy for them to deceive themselves because all of Obama’s anti-Israel connections do not fit the stereotype of the White, redneck, Neo-Nazi type of antisemite.
They give Rev. Wright a free pass because he’s Black, and Blacks didn’t persecute Jews in Eastern Europe (which is where most Jewish Americans emigrated from). Jewish liberals are proud of the role that Jews played during the civil rights movement, so when they see Black antisemitism, they look the other way.
They give Rashid Khalidi a pass because he’s a “respected academic”, and Jews have the utmost respect for universities in spite of all the Israel bashing that goes on on college campuses.
They give William Ayers a free pass because there are so many Jewish baby boomer families that had teenage kids who embraced the hippie movement.
I think you are correct, Political Jews are a strange, strange group, but if pure numbers are looked at, I’d bet that Evangelicals that support Israel directly easily outnumber them.
I’d bet Rod Parsley’s Mega Church is in the area of Bowling Green....
