Delaware State Police stopped Alvina Vansickle from purchasing a .22-caliber pistol for self-defense because she was too old and a woman, said Superintendent Col. Thomas MacLeish. The outrage that followed led to the revelation that Delaware State Police had been keeping lists of gun buyers for years; state law requires them to destroy these records after 60 days.
I lost all my guns in a tragic boating accident . . .
...Nefosky told him he searched seven years of firearms transaction records to see if Vansickle had ever bought a gun before.
Macleish: "Our review of our electronic records indicated we had a glitch in the system, back to August 2005," he said. "They have since been purged."
At the very least, Macleish, his flunkie, Nefosky -- and their immediate supervisor -- should be summarily fired for
And then, a broader investigation and legal action should be initiated -- all the way up to and including the Governor.
I too am an “old” woman. It’s a good thing I inherited guns from my mother....unregistered guns, that they can pry from my cold dead hands.
Now ... if we can just figure out how to shake that bush.
Check out this .22lr MP5 clone...

If I had the spare $500 I would be tempted but they are currently all sold out.
MacLeish said the initial call taker "was concerned this individual never purchased a weapon before. Age and gender caused her to take caution."
As to whether age and gender are included in the state statute as legitimate reasons to reject a firearms purchase, MacLeish stated, "No, they are not."
There are AT LEAST three clear civil rights violations here. I hope the NRA, GOA, and the Delaware folks who originally wrote the law and are appalled at how the State Police have flaunted it (should they really be surprised?) stay on this like white on rice!
To hear her rant whenever I [used to -- of course] buy another gun, you'd think I had the equivalent in value of the Hope and Cullinan diamonds tied up in steel and wood... LOL!!!

Actually, the above is purely a joke: we're in Texas, and my wife shoots her guns nearly as well as I shoot mine... ;-)
I have recently trained several older women in pistol shooting. Their grips is really poor and one I had to devise a new hold for her to even be able to cycle the slide on a 92FS. She was only in her early 60s. If you want to be rich design a gun that has the punch of a 357 with no recoil and a button cocking system.
Have you ever shot a CZ 52? The hot round it fires would not be suitable for someone with week hands, but the roller lock up in the action makes it very easy to rack the slide, about like a .22 auto. I wonder how hard it would be to make something like it in .380 or 9MM. They are pretty crude, but I’m a machinist and I’ve made mine a real pleasure to shoot.

And a tank of gasoline for $5.
A picture of Col Applegate as well.
Nice.
DE keeps lists and can arbitrarily refuse Civil Rights to a little old lady...is that America?
Several years ago, someone was hunting squirrels about 1/8 mile from my house. He was situated at a lower elevation than the house and was shooting into the trees, which were also lower than the house.
The .22 penetrated aluminum siding and went partially into a stud. The cops could do nothing, becasue by the time I called them and they looked at the bullet holes, the careless hunter was long gone.
I am an older woman whose wrists aren’t as strong as they once were and it is the only weapon I can handle comfortably.
I’ve been thinking about posting a sign in my front yard saying, “This Home is Certified Gun-Free by Sarah Brady.”
Do you think that would keep Security Minister Farrakhan’s goons away after January?
While I am of the use enough gun school, too, if someone with a .22 tells me to stay out, I stay out unless going in is worth risking my life. My cousin died from a .22LR wound.
We used to live out in the country on a creek. We regularly got hit with shotgun pellets and I am sure an occasional near miss by a 22 as well. I would call the sheriff but he rarely caught anyone.
