Part of the point that I was trying to make was that there has been a double standard of behavior for the two political parties for a long time in regards to the issue of privacy. I don't have a problem with the WH being taped either, but I do have a problem with the Dems finding it offensive and outrageous when it was Nixon, when they had been doing the same thing for years.
Because the members of the GOP for years have found jobs outside of the government to be ideologically preferable to being a government employee, our bureaucracy is filled with Democrats. It is a basic difference in the basic outlook of of a Dem versus a GOP. So, unfortunately, we have a system that is always stacked against us if there is a way to use the bureaucracy to invade our privacy.

They found it illegal. Which it was then and still is now.
I agree with your point on the double standard thing, though.
I'd've thought that's why we have law enforcement. To take the politics out it.
Note to law enforcement: Silly me :(

JFK installed the taping apparatus. His tapes are still sealed from the public.
LBJ’s tapes were released and revealed a culture of corruption (including a blackmail letter he held from the Houston Chronicle where he had them swear to give him only positive press in exchange for permitting a bank merger to go through).
