HOA removes welcome home sign for Iraqi vet, a resident complained it was political and showed support for the WOT.
WTF is with all the abrv, b?
HOA- Home owners association
WOT- War on terror
vet - veteran
I’d bet the person who complained about the signs has owned more than one pair of Birkenstocks in his/her life. (If you call that a life.)
People have got to lighten up on this political correctness.
Hate this. Pisses me off!
HOA’s can be pretty evil and corrupt, but unfortunately for the members, it’s the contract they signed when they bought. Some associations are really good, they keep the property up, they respond to homeowner issues, and they generally make it a nice place to live. The one where my sister lives, which she loves, only allows a home owner to serve four consecutive years on the board, then they have to be off for four consecutive years before they can be reelected.
On the other hand, my brother was in one that was so currupt it was ridiculous. There were five board members and they were all related. They essentially where buying up condos there whenever they hit the market, then they would turn them into rentals. This family, because they controlled the majority of the votes, basically became the land barons of that whole community. They have rules locked down so tight that you pretty much need board approval to do anything and they fine owners for everything. Of course, those could get “overlooked” for those who gave the board their proxy vote.
My brother actually got a $50 fine for having his porch light out for more than three days. They require homeowners to have their front light on from dusk to dawn and his had blown while he was gone on vacation. Even better, if the fine isn’t paid in 30 days, they send it to their lawyer who tacks on another $700 fee for him, then, if you challenge it in court, you have already contractualy agreed to pay for their legal expenses for them to go after you as well as to defend themselves from you. Even better though, while all that is going on, the debt is accumulating latefees and interest and your property is held as security for any debts owed to the HOA.
HOA’s are generally a bad choice to sign up for.
The signs could be take as support for the war? Ridiculous. More than ridiculous. Whata bunch o’ Clymers!
Oh, I’d be putting up some more signs, but they wouldn’t say “welcome home.”

HOAs are little more than the equivalent of the housing commissars inflicted on the Russians after their revolution. You have no say in the house you “own” and paid for. You live by their rules, for the “common good” of all.
I bet I there's "a resident" whose home will be in for some "special attention" this Halloween... '-}
