San Francisco voters may be confused about robo-calls and mailers from the San Francisco Democratic Club which endorse the exact opposite slate of candidates and measures that the San Francisco Democratic Party endorsed over the summer.
Here's the story: The San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee, newly chaired by Supervisor Aaron Peskin, met in August to make its city endorsements. The group gave the nod to the most liberal candidates for supervisor and to some controversial measures including decriminalizing prostitution and embracing public power.
Some Democrats were none too pleased and formed their own group called the San Francisco Democratic Club. The group has already raised around $100,000 from downtown groups including the Chamber of Commerce, the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, Committee on Jobs and Pacific Gas and Electric Co.
So far, they've paid for robo-calls for Sue Lee in District One and Joe Alioto Jr. in District Three. They've also mailed slate cards across the city endorsing the most conservative candidates for supervisor and no votes on the prostitution and public power measures.
The only person we could find who's actually a member of this new club is its political chair, Michael Riordan, a 28-year-old political consultant who lives in the Richmond and is working against the public power measure. He said the group has 40 members and has met twice -- at Tres Agave, the Mexican restaurant near the Giants' ballpark. The group isn't chartered by the Democratic Party, but Riordan said that's a goal of his. It has a bare bones web-site and an address: a UPS mailbox on Geary Blvd.

They sure don’t stand for anything that I do. Just more of the same.
The Dems in San Freaksisco haven’t been off their knees since the 60s.
Brilliant! The 2-party system hard at work in San Fran. The Democrats and the Really Loony Democrats.
The Central Committee? The Stalinist Fricassees have no sense of history...or a truly macabre sense of humor!
