THE POLL: Virginia Commonwealth University, presidential race in Virginia among likely voters (13 electoral votes).
THE NUMBERS: Barack Obama 51 percent, John McCain 40 percent.
OF INTEREST: Obama's strongest regions are northern Virginia and Hampton Roads, the latter dominated by military interests where McCain, a former Navy pilot, should be strong. Obama dominated among respondents who regarded the economy and health care as the most important issues. McCain was strong among people whose foremost concern was terrorism.
THE DETAILS: Conducted by telephone Oct. 20-22 by VCU's Center for Public Policy of 817 likely voters. The margin of sampling error plus or minus 4 percentage points.

THE POLL: Washington Post, presidential race in Virginia among likely voters.
THE NUMBERS: Barack Obama 52 percent, John McCain 44 percent.
OF INTEREST: A month ago, the same poll showed that 52 percent felt McCain was best suited to handle the campaign against terrorism, 10 points better than Obama. Now, the poll shows that Obama has drawn almost even with McCain on the terrorism issue.
THE DETAILS: Conducted by telephone Oct. 22-25 among 784 likely voters. The margin of sampling error plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

I gather it's different elsewhere, but I personally don't know a single VA conservative who is supportive of the bailout. Everybody I talk to is fit to be tied. If McCain had come down on the right side of this issue VA wouldn't even be in play.
I think McCain/Palin will carry Virginia. I do not believe the polls are anyway telling this time. Too many factors that cannot be figured into the final tally.
I don’t believe that. Obama voted for the bailout.
I'm trying to keep an open mind. But I think we'll know fairly early on election night. If Virginia goes for Obama, it's going to be a blowout. We shall see, but I'm not especially confident at this point.
Conservatives won't be voting Obama... too many just won't be voting McCain. Too many might not be voting at all.
Look, the reality is that Warner (D) is well ahead of Gilmore for senate. If I were in a district represented by a Rino I might see no reason to vote at all.
VA, I fear, will be this year's FL... but we'll go the wrong way.
“If I were in a district represented by a Rino I might see no reason to vote at all.”
Obama as President? Come on man!
Confession to everybody...
I AM a glass is half empty kinda guy.
You couldn't possibly be more wrong.
But thanks for sharing.
No worry. I’m solid.
If Obama loses Pennsylvania it will be an early night.

So you feel this is similiar to Dole’s effort back in ‘96?
What you me "we," Kemo Sabe?
If Virginia goes to BO I don't see how McC can win.
This was conducted by college students... the same people that steal my campaign signs.
I don’t buy it.
i live in VA and my husband is a gloom and doomer like you. i don’t think that VA will go for Obama. i know my gloom and doomer is quite often wrong with his worst case scenarios, as i imagine you are, as well : )
