Buried deep in the pages of the $700 billion package are some gift-wrapped goodies for the entertainment industry.The legislation eliminates a budget cap on the existing tax deduction, which had been limited to flicks costing less than $15 million. Big studio movies that have budgets exceeding $100 million now qualify.
In addition, films shot in the U.S. now qualify for a tax deduction that was given to domestic manufacturers in 2004, which capped the top tax rate at 32 percent instead of 35 percent.
For Hollywood’s portion of the bailout, according to a report published by the Joint Committee on Taxation, taxpayers will be footing the bill for $358 million in 2009 and $470 million by 2018.

Hollywood will get fed $ to produce cr@p that no one wants to watch. Just like the USSR. They’ve already shown they will produce the “approved” material. Now they just need the money.
Yes, plus DVD distribution later — and eventually sales of TV rights.

Not that I dont respect George Bush but I dare say the world is already very Bush fatigued. Paying money to go see a movie based on him isnt something many people would want to do.
I’m so happy that a really bad chihuahua movie beat his trash film.
Liberal Hollywood studios received a tax cut? They should donate their windfall back to the government as a show of solidarity. I mean, hey, it isn’t as if they “need” the money... /sarc
OK, did anyone here actually see “W”? I did and thought it was quite good. And I’m a fairly big Bush fan (the dozen or so who are left). I think history will judge him pretty well.
Anyway, the movie was exactly like his biography, which I read—at least the stuff pre-2000, which the biography was.
Give it a look. I liked it. It’s a biopic and the Bush family is an interesting one.
