To what extent Wall Street will affect the Plunge or See Forever isnt yet clear, but signs of a slower winter abound, from fewer people on planes to more hotel rooms open at peak times of the season.
According to Scott McQuade, CEO of the Telluride Tourism Board, bookings are down across the board and rooms are still available for rent over the Christmas holiday, perhaps a harbinger of a slower winter than the past few...
The bailout, the looming recession, Just really put our phones on a freeze, McQuade said. Were in our prime booking season right now.
This years December is lagging some seven points behind the last, and January and February are both falling behind, too. To see double-digit deficits in percentage points thats concerning,
Its a major deal, but I know from talking with colleagues in other ski areas, theyre seeing a lot of the same thing or worse, Stewart said. The public is frightened about the economy right now.
McQuade said hoteliers and tourism industry leaders met earlier this week to gin up specials to attract more visitors something the region must work hard to do because services, in many cases, dont fall under the umbrella ownership of the ski company, as they do under an Intrawest or Vail Resorts scheme.

Didn’t that city council vote to impeach Bush awhile back?
The politicians there are nuts.
Worse, the voters keep on re-electing the fools.
They are planning to raise more taxes on themselves and their paying guests soon.
Dixie Chicks’ marketing strategy works again.
Well, just damn, I lost my itty bitty violin. Anybody got an extra?
Isn't that special.
;-)
If John and Sarah get elected, many of the left wing maggot infected liberal controlled companies which have used the Dixie Chick Marketing strategy, will fade away.
My tagline sums up what happens to most liberal run companies.
Well said on the Ponzi Schemes.
Just a matter of time until they blow up.
They can not exist without a taxpayer bailout.

I thought it was always “snowing” in telluride.
If Telluride weren’t expensive enough, they have “Gay Ski Week” every spring.
The beetle infestation is very sad to see!
Same in Steamboat, Vail, elsewhere.
As in the John Denver ‘rocky mt. high’ snowing ?
Colorado and much of the west is looking at decades of huge fires.
Sad that people will die , lose their homes and jobs.
Hopefully some will see that the Sierra Club agenda resulted in massive air, water, and soil pollution plus death of wildlife from organic soil, fish, frogs...to deer and elk.
Yes, the hippies have their claws in Telluride. Big doper place in the 70s. Whats funny, is the founders of Telluride would have run everyone of them out of town back in the day.
