Ex-Radical Talks of Education and Justice, Not Obama
NY Times ^ | October 27, 2008 | COLIN MOYNIHAN

...as pundits and partisans have debated the significance of his relationship with Senator Barack Obama, William Ayers has avoided the limelight, steering clear of political commentary and public pronouncements.

But on Sunday afternoon, Mr. Ayers, 63, a founder of the 1960s-era radical group the Weather Underground, a former fugitive, former Chicago Citizen of the Year and current professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, appeared without fanfare at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, in Chelsea, to participate in a symposium on educational justice.

snip...the WNYC radio host Leonard Lopate, asked, “Does this mean I can’t run for president?”

“It means you can win,” Mr. Ayers said in response.

While describing his views on education and social justice, Mr. Ayers hardly resembled the unrepentant terrorist that his critics have sought to paint him as while attacking the Obama campaign.

He urged one man in the audience, a principal of a South Bronx high school, to establish closer ties with parents in his school district. snip...

And he called upon educators to establish curriculums that help equip students to be active in society.

“In a democracy, we educate for citizenship,” he said. “Not for obedience of authority, but for participation.”

After the discussion, some audience members asked questions.

“What happened to the activism?” one woman asked. “What happened to the revolution?”

Mr. Ayers at first mentioned the realignment of 1994, in which Republicans took control of Congress, which some Republicans referred to as a revolution, and then went on to talk about the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s uses of the term “revolution,” and saying that it would be futile to emulate political models from the 1960s and ’70s.

“Can we imagine another world?” he said.

Americans electing Obama, is like the Palestinians electing Hamas.

” founder of the 1960s-era radical group the Weather Underground”

Stalinist lie.

The WU was established in OCTOBER 1969. The final 3 months of the 1960s.

They did the majority of their bombings in the 1970s and robbed their last bank in the 1980s.

Screw these lying communist columnists. They know that Barack was NINE years old in 1972 when Ayers bombed the Pentagon.

If they are dishonest about the most basic details, you cannot trust them on the rest.

Actually he was nearly 10.5 in 1972 (born in August 1961, the tail end of the Baby Boom).

At any rate, he was NOT 8 years old. He wasn’t even in America, was he?

Notice how they left out Ayer’s recent comments about how they “did not do enough.”

Or that he could see his way to doing this again some day?

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F02E1DE1438F932A2575AC0A9679C8B63

And he says he doesn’t actually remember suggesting that rich people be killed or that people kill their parents, but ‘’it’s been quoted so many times I’m beginning to think I did,’’ he said. ‘’It was a joke about the distribution of wealth.’’

snip

So, would Mr. Ayers do it all again, he is asked? ‘’I don’t want to discount the possibility,’’ he said.

‘’I don’t think you can understand a single thing we did without understanding the violence of the Vietnam War,’’ he said, and the fact that ‘’the enduring scar of racism was fully in flower.’’ Mr. Ayers pointed to Bob Kerrey, former Democratic Senator from Nebraska, who has admitted leading a raid in 1969 in which Vietnamese women and children were killed. ‘’He committed an act of terrorism,’’ Mr. Ayers said. ‘’I didn’t kill innocent people.’’

snip

In 1969, after the Manson family murders in Beverly Hills, Ms. Dohrn told an S.D.S. audience: ‘’Dig it! Manson killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them, then they shoved a fork into a victim’s stomach.’’

In Chicago recently, Ms. Dohrn said of her remarks: ‘’It was a joke. We were mocking violence in America. Even in my most inflamed moment I never supported a racist mass murderer.’’

snip

He also writes about the Weathermen’s sexual experimentation as they tried to ‘’smash monogamy.’’ The Weathermen were ‘’an army of lovers,’’ he says, and describes having had different sexual partners, including his best male friend.

snip

In the mid-1970’s the Weathermen began quarreling. One faction, including Ms. Boudin, wanted to join the Black Liberation Army. Others, including Ms. Dohrn and Mr. Ayers, favored surrendering. Ms. Boudin and Ms. Dohrn had had an intense friendship but broke apart. Mr. Ayers and Ms. Dohrn were purged from the group.

snip

And as for settling into marriage after efforts to smash monogamy, Ms. Dohrn said, ‘’You’re always trying to balance your understanding of who you are and what you need, and your longing and imaginings of freedom.’’

‘’Happily for me, Billy keeps me laughing, he keeps me growing,’’ she said.

Mr. Ayers said he had some of the same conflicts about marriage. ‘’We have to learn how to be committed,’’ he said, ‘’and hold out the possibility of endless reinventions.’’

Contemplate these words when they ask “how will same sex marriage destroy the institution of marriage”. Subversion has always been the goal. The Sex Positive Agenda demands it.
