There WERE Jews that tried to leave Germany and were refused entry into Britain, South Africa, and, if memory serves, the US.

There were even Jews that had to return to Europe BECAUSE they weren't allowed entry into another country.

Sort-of. As far as I know, no Jews were forced to return to Germany during the 1930s. The Western democracies welcomed Jewish refugees from Hitler, by and large.
