I'll be happy to cheer two things. One, the fact that the United States has, at long last, elected an African-American president. His color is his only qualification for the presidency. I'd sooner elect a lump of coal.

The case could be made that a hispanic or native American or even Japanese-American are more deserving of attaining the White House if we are going to champion the event soley based on race.
Native Americans were here first. So were the Spainish offspring of native peoples. And while slavery was a horrible institution as was segregation, the Japanese citizens went to relocation camps in the 20th Century.

Since when did skin pigmentation become a “qualification” for the presidency? I believe you meant that Obama is the first Affirmative Action candidate, because he obviously has got as far as he has by virtue of his 50% African descent.
