Palin Talks Taxes In Des Moines (Iowa)

October 25, 2008--Today the GOP vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin made stops in Iowa. She first appeared in Sioux City this morning before making a stop right here in Des Moines. Thousands gathered at Hy-Vee Hall Saturday afternoon to cheer on their "hockey mom" candidate.

Channel 13's Emily Carlson reports Governor Palin used today's rally to focus on how she and McCain are different from opponents senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden. From housing to health care to her main focus of the day, taxes, Palin wants Iowans to see the stark contrast between the two parties.

Palin said if she and McCain are elected, they will lower income tax, reduce small business taxes and double the child deduction tax. It's an issue Palin feels will distance her ticket from Obama.

Today she accused Obama of not being candid with the American people about his tax plan. Palin says, under her plan, the government would get less of taxpayer's money. Under his plan, Palin says, the government will just redistribute your tax dollars.

"Our opponent is not being candid with you about tax plans. It is not mean spirited, not negative campaigning to call someone out on plans and records and associations," Palin said.

Many in the crowd said they like Palin because she's an "ordinary mom," not a lifetime politician.

Protesters oppose McCain's healthcare plan

Palin supporters were not the only ones at the rally downtown. Members of "Iowa for Healthcare" stood outside Hy-Vee Hall, voicing their concerns about McCain's healthcare plan. They claim his plan will take the country's healthcare system down the same path as the nation's economy.

"We believe that Senator John McCain's healthcare plan will leave roughly over twenty million more people uninsured. We don't like the idea of taxing healthcare and we don't think throwing money at the problem will solve it," said protester Natasha Newcomb.

Looks like a good crowd.

This woman is unbelievable.

How many stops & speeches is she doing each day? I swear at least 4. Bless her and her family. She must be so tired. Amazing.

Among the examples of Sarah’s exquisite intellect was on Hannity the other day when she pointed out the need to question not only the nature of Obama’s relationship with Ayers and the other radicals and criminals, but also what is it that these radicals and criminals have seen in Obama that they spend so much time with him?

Wow! She really gets it.

I have never heard Sarah mouth that platitude that absolutely drives me up a wall—”There are good people on both sides of this (abortion) issue.” I’ve heard her say she is respectful of those who disagree with her, but I’ve never heard that awful, mush-minded platitude come out of her mouth. (Of course, McCain says it all the time.) I hope I’m right, and that she’s never said it.
