BOSTON — Gov. Deval Patrick has lately addressed doting crowds around the country as a surrogate for Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, his friend and fellow gifted orator. Last month, Mr. Obama even acknowledged borrowing language from Mr. Patrick’s stump speeches, casting a flattering light on a novice politician barely known outside Massachusetts. But there is no such glow at home for Mr. Patrick, the first Democrat to lead his state in 16 years and the nation’s second elected black governor.

Here are Patrick's favorability ratings for September 2008. Interesting that the 18 to 34 group disapproves of him 52% to 42%. His overall rate is 50% disapprove, 45% approve, and 5% not sure.

“He’s got to score some major successes to prove he is relevant,” said Paul Watanabe, a political science professor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. “One thing you don’t want to be is irrelevant, especially with the kind of appeal that he had as a candidate and is similar to that of Barack Obama.”

Perhaps a little 'Rat buyers remorse? Naaaaaaahhhhh, Patrick will win again as Massachusettes slides into Michigan-like status. Enjoy your socialism Mass. liberals.

I’m sure both Patrick & Barney Frank will be re-elected here, but I think it is worth broadcasting to the rest of the nation what a failure both have been & more importantly how it will affect the entire nation.

“Perhaps a little ‘Rat buyers remorse?”

I think so, if Obama wins Patrick will be on a bus south to DC.

The general talk here in liberal la-la land is that Deval is praying that Obama wins the election so he can abandon this state faster than the Road Runner escaping Wile E. Coyote.

Though I’d be glad to be rid of him, I fear that Obama has a cabinet position in mind for Deval or far worse...a Supreme Court appointment. That would be horrific for this country.

I don’t think Obama will do as well as Kerry did in Mass...Bush got 37% here in 2004. The reason: Deval Patrick, who was the Obama prototype. All slogan, no substance.

If the Massachusett’s Obama is a wet squib, how’s Obama going to play in the US?
