we distil fuel from any number of sources and yet some way somehow the only oil we have available came from 65 million years ago...
When the gasoline engine was developed it was developed to run on wood alcohol. When the diesel engine was developed, it was developed to run on peanut oil.
The fact that both have been adapted to run on oil based fuel, means only that oil is cheaper. And if anyone was really interested, produced less CO2 in the process.
Simple engineers rule, ‘just because you can, doesn't mean you should’. Applies to a whole lot of things not just engine fuel.
