The military voting project at the National Defense Committee responds to reports out of Fairfax, Virginia, and after polite telephone conversations and an exchange of letters, the problem looks like it will be solved and votes will be counted.

Didn’t something like this go to the Supreme Court a couple of voting cycles back?

Good thing ... otherwise the Northern Command might decide to engage in maneuvers in Fairfax County.

Well, that’s the claim.

The reality is that, when no one was looking, the Democrats were coming up with special requirements to deny the military the vote. They may do so again. These are the same people who are registering illegal immigrants, registering multiple times, and who routinely register the dead.

Good.

Their votes should be ushered to the front of the lines.

Military votes should count twice. :)

It’d better be fixed. Especially when we’re at war, counting the military vote should be a priority.

Good. The MA sec. of state has stated that he will not ensure military overseas get ballots or, if returned, be counted. Coming soon to your state if Obama wins.

Not only should they be counted, but if anything, counted twice.

“...so long as a Federal Post Card Application is received by election day, the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot will count, which is the normal process for military absentee ballots to be cast.

Hopefully this will allow for the ballots to be fully counted.” [from http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/]

This doesn’t sound like it has been resolved. The Virginia Absentee Voter Guide p. 392 says nothing about having to have the Witness address [http://www.fvap.gov/resources/media/vagVA.pdf]. It also has a Bold heading about Notary/Witness for one type of application but for the other it only has an included regular text paragraph [the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot].

We know the democrats have tried any number of times to keep Military Absentee votes from being counted and with a Dem in charge and 70% or so of the Military in favor of Senator McCain, maybe I’m being a bit paranoid but I believe they will do anything to stop as many from being counted as possible. Just my personal feeling on this.

Hopefully someone will keep on this.

From what I read on an earlier thread, Fairfax official had misintrepreted the regulations on military ballots.

It was not necessary to have the address of the witness on the ballots.
