Did anyone notice that the writer kept referring to her as Ms. Palin instead of Gov. Palin. Also, and I may be wrong on this, but isn't Ms. used for women that are single, and Mrs. used for women that are married?

No, the whole point of Ms. is that it is the female equivalent of Mr. - no indication of marital status. Why should women’s marital status be included in their title when men’s isn’t? Its almost as if their value depends on it. Perhaps at one time but certainly no more.
