For the GOP, the cavalry apparently isnt coming.
Republicans attuned to conservative third-party efforts say that with less than two weeks to go until Election Day, the prospects for any 11th-hour, anti-Obama ad campaign are highly unlikely.
Many in the party, including inside the McCain campaign, have held out hope that a deep-pocketed benefactor would emerge to bankroll ads in the campaigns final days spots that might, for example, resurrect the most incendiary clips from the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
But thanks largely to lack of passion for McCain within the conservative base, diminished hopes that he can win and a sharp decline in the stock market that has badly pinched donors pockets, veteran Republican operatives say it appears almost certain that what could be the most damaging line of attack against the Democratic nominee will be left on the shelf.
Its October 21st, and if you cant say it by October 21st, then chances are youre not going to say anything, said Chris LaCivita, the strategist behind the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth in 2004. LaCivita has been working for a new conservative third-party group this year, the American Issues Project.

Where is the NRA?! Got to think some of these 527s are hosing us donors, promising ad buys that they aren’t actually doing. Class-action lawsuit?

The end is nigh /s
sad, you would think some folks out there would be a little nervous about their futures with an Obama, Pelisi, Reid agenda.
I guess Politico wants to leave no doubt that they are a full member of the liberal media
More attempts at demoralization! They’re scared to death.
Good lord, the NRA has been running ads in VA since September.
Pipedreamin’from Politico.
;) Why is Ed Rendell pleading for Obama to come to Pennsylvania? Could it be that Jack Murtha tossed the state away for good? It wasn’t in great shape to begin with, what with the bitter, clinging to their guns and religion comment in San Francisco.
Governor Palin’s campaigning on that latter point resonated.
Joe the Plumber resonated. The media bashing of Joe the Plumber backfired on Team Obama.
Jack Murtha’s intolerance backfired on Team Obama.
What the campaigns see and what we see are disparate things.
I’m not exactly sure what the rules are for this, but couldn’t Cindy kick in a few million from the family fortune? Mitt put in $40 million of his own money in the primary. Or is it too late in the game for that?
I note that the story mentions the word “Palin” only once, in passing.
The enthusiasm for Sarah is enormous, but the author can’t mention it because it doesn’t fit his agenda.
Why would Romney help McCain?
If McCain had of attacked 0bama with the zeal he attacked Romney, then maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess.
It’s not over til the voters sing.....
rofl, good point.
Welcome to FR.
“Why is Ed Rendell pleading for Obama to come to Pennsylvania? Could it be that Jack Murtha tossed the state away for good? “
Not to worry Ed, Democrats are retarded. Just as the morons in Cleveland keep electing Kucinich, the folks in PA will continue to vote for Murtha and will vote Obama.
I have never had a lower opinion of my fellow Americans.
Most of the sheeple don't think that far ahead and are too wrapped up in themselves to even notice what is going on with the Country. Their main source of information is MTV or NPR (if they want to pretend to be highbrow) but they can't assimilate the effect of action / reaction. The result is that when the left comes up with a "catchphrase" they pick it up and parrot it without even thinking about whether it is truthful or correct.
I have not seen a single one here in Northern VA.
