UN chief sees US swinging to multilateralism

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The United Nations chief called for greater cooperation Tuesday from the next president of the United States in facing the world's biggest challenges.

"During the past few years, the relationship has been not desirable," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Without specifically naming Democrat Barack Obama or Republican John McCain, he said, "I think this historical pendulum is swinging back to multilateralism."

He said the United Nations needs a "strong partnership" with the United States to meet world development and peacekeeping goals.

Ban reiterated his belief that the U.S. must do more to face global climate change. He said the political will to take dramatic action is missing.

"It's an irony that those countries who have least contributed to this phenomenon of global warming will be hardest hit," he said. "Steering clear of the cliff will require immediate action by all."

More delay will only result in the world ignoring what he called its "historical responsibility" to protect the environment for future generations.

Ban previously has said the next U.S. president must show greater leadership than previous administrations in tackling climate change.

Swinging to? The WOT has been a multilateral effort -- we haven't been going at it alone.

"During the past few years, the relationship has been not desirable"

This is detestable. Trying to influence our elections.

The full courts press of the Drive-by Media, Pollsters, World Dictators and now the Useless U.N., I think I want to vomit.

Does anybody else wonder why we still support the UN?

It tries to undermine the Constitution of the USA and
would love to cripple our Constitutional Republic.

In over 60 years No major politician has ever tried
to get the USA out of the UN.

16 out of 17 of the AMERICANS that were involved in
creating the U . N. were later identified, in sworn
testimony, as secret communist agents.

The first Secretary General was the AMERICAN Alger Hiss.
Alger Hiss served time in prison pursuant to his
involvement in a Communist spy ring.

Many of the other AMERICANS that were involved in creating
the U . N. fled the country, to avoid prosecution.

The ONE AMERICAN, that was involved in creating the U . N.
and was NOT later identified, in sworn testimony, as a
secret communist agent, was Dean Acheson.
Dean Acheson’s law firm was the legal representative of
the Soviet Union, in U. S. courts.

If the AMERICANS that were involved in creating the U . N. were Communists, what do you think we got from the rest of the world?

"I think this historical pendulum is swinging back to multilateralism."

Sure it is. I mean, the UN spoke and the Russians couldn't wait to withdraw from Georgia, right?

“UN chief sees US swinging to multilateralism”

MM, it’s about money and the global warming cap and trade scam. The UN makes money “authenticating” carbon offsets and such.

It’s like their skim off the Oil For Food scandal.

And what were all those votes at the UN SC about before the invasion of Iraq?

And doesn't the UN charter include the right to self defense?

And what about that Colin Powell speech at the UN SC, that didn't happen?

And what about the 31 nations who joined in the Iraq war? You think we are all as stupid as Democrats?

Ban previously has said the next U.S. president must show greater leadership than previous administrations in tackling climate change.

Hey Ban, The US has done a better job of fighting the so called global warming than virtually every country that did sign the Kyoto treaty.

The US is walking the walk, while the UN and Kyoto signatories are only talking.

That is leadership!

This is the result of “salting” the UN with many small countries, including the former Republics of the USSR. The UN is a Socialists/Communists front organization intent on milking even more money fron the USA to further our destruction and their their cause of World Domination!

I like McCain's idea of a League Of Democracies better.

Wow! i never though I would use the words "I like" and "McCain" in the same sentence. After Palin, this makes twice! If he will just secure the border and stop with the Spanish advertisements, I could end up liking him . . .maybe
