Not trying to be picky but I believe the quote is more in the vein of:
"If you are twenty and you are not liberal, you don't have a heart. And if you are 40 and you are not a conservative, you don't have a brain."
Realizing the sham that is modern liberalism usually takes more than a year to shake off.
I would add that I feel not using a blackberry or other devices doesn’t relate to one’s ability to lead, govern etc. However, it is generally viewed through a cynical eye by young people.
The hidden or not so hidden message in the O campaign has been to cast himself as a technocrat — a technician. His use of stats, etc. are coldly technical and trusted by younger voters. Mac’s campaign has relied on old fashioned promises, i.e. “I will not raise taxes” while O’s campaign strategy has been to say, “Thirty five percent of the 8th percentile will not see their taxes raised.”
Young voters trust the appearance of the quantifiable. They find comfort in it.
