With two polls released this morning showing Sen. Barack Obama leading Sen. John McCain in the Garden State by between 17 and 23 points, former Gov. Tom Kean acknowledged that winning this state is a long-shot, and that Vice-Presidential Sarah Palin hasn't helped.
"I think one of the problems is there hasn't been much of a campaign in New Jersey, if any. That's always a problem. It's uphill for any Republican to win in New Jersey, and the ones who have won are those who have spent a great deal of time here," he told PolitickerNJ.com from California in a phone interview.
Kean, who governed as a moderate in the 1980s and developed cross-party appeal, was one of McCain's early New Jersey backers. He endorsed him late last year, when most of the GOP establishment - including his son, Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Jr. -- was on board with Rudy Giuliani. McCain, Kean said, was the most helpful Senator when he chaired the 9/11 commission - the creation of which McCain often cites as a major policy difference between himself and President Bush.

Kean should just shut up.
Somehow this is Palin’s fault. Amazing.
If McCain had picked Lieberman, McCain could be in position to win New Jersey.... even though he would be down nationally by 25 points.
This election would be over weeks ago w/o Palin. She energized the base. Romney would be the only other possible option - bringing economic cred - but he had problems with a large part of the base. Anyone else on the short list would have been the end of this campaign.
I made a post about this yesterday, after McCain loses there will be a 9 month onslaught to blame and destory Palin, you just watch, it is coming, they hate her worse than anybody in history.
McCain never had any real chance in New Jersey so it’s academic.
New Jersey was never in play anyway, was it? There is a certain mindset in that state, that tolerates a HUGE quantity of corruption if done by Democrats, but is highly critical of the least misdemeanor on the part of a Republican. The NJ Republicans are so whipped they don’t even TRY to raise the banner and sound the trumpets.
LOL.
Sure.
EXTREME RINO ALERT!! Another Palin hater from the squishy liberal wing is heard from...
LOL.
Sure.
how can anobody criticise mccain’s pick of palin when there’s obama’s pick of biden? if anybody should be criticized it shouldn’t be mccain!
Ah, Joisey, the only state where the polls show that the majority of the residents wish they lived in another state.
Right, like McCain had a chance in New Jersey regardless of his VP choice.
LOL — Yeah, I’m sure Palin made the difference in NJ. In what respect? Whether we lost by 25 or 30 percentage points? Jersey tends to flirt and tease to the GOP side early on, but always manages to withdraw into the comfortable and familiar climes of corrupt liberalism.

Exactly!
Never in a million years would McCain win NJ. They have changed their name from the Garden State to the Tax Me More State
Exactly, NJ’s Republcians have a tough environment, NJ is expensive to run a campaign in, and it is a long shot to win, and hasn’t went Republican in almost 20 yrs.
The socialists have infested that state so bad even the roaches can't leave.
No. it’s best to get all the anti-Palin RINOs identified, so we can help make sure they never step foot in power again.
